Registration closes for Disney races

LAKE BUENA VISTA (Orlando Sentinel)-- Runners from around the world set a record pace as registration for the 10th annual Walt Disney World Marathon and Half Marathon concluded with 22,000 participants, including 16,000 for the 26.2-mile run through all four Walt Disney World theme parks and resort areas. The races are scheduled for Jan. 12, 2003.

What? There going to close all the parks down January 12th for something like Tour De' France, But in Disney Parks?

They have the race in early January every year -- it's held very early in the morning though. We always see the racers at breakfast when we're there on our regular January trips. The parks aren't really shut down -- they may open an hour or two later than normal though as the racers do run through them.

Oh thats cool, I should try going there and seeing if i cant get some pics or info or anything, I have never seen this event before.

How Many Runners and all that r there in the race? I dont get how that works out, Do they have seperate races or just one big one where so many people run at once.

The marathon a one big race with everyone running into/on/tramping each other!

haha, Oh man that sounds crazy, I use to run track but i quit cause it was too much pressure on me... I wish u good luck in your race. Im going to try to be there to see all that.

We were there during the 2002 marathon. It was amazing to me how little that many people and their families affected the park experience.

It was our last day, and we had breakfast at Hollywood & Vine. The race went through MGM; half of Sunset BLVD (the one With ToT on it, and half of Hollywood BLVD were blocked off with cones to create a "runners lane".

CMs were along the route to help you cross the street and to cheer for the runners. I thought the cheering was a nice touch.

Most of the route is on back roads and only a few miles are through the parks.
