Refurbishment leader?

Is it just me, or is the Liberty Square Riverboat the all-time leader in refurbishments at WDW? It seems it is always down nowadays for extended periods. Every time I ride (which has only been 3 times in 5 years due to it being refurbished most of the time while I'm there) it seems the steam boiler is always leaking and making weird sounds. I wonder why they haven't switched over to a more eco-friendly and safer system like diesel electric.

it was down for most of my trip too in august. although it was running fridays, saturdays and mondays... bit strange.

In august it shut for 10 days and then ran again daily! We spent 21 days in wdw in august and rode it b4 and after refurb :sohappy:

The most likely scenario is that the boat requires a lot of upkeep and maintenance, which would require more time than just an overnight fix. Its the same thing with any other vehicle on property, be it a monorail, tram, ride vehicle, bus, etc. The only thing is, there's only one Riverboat whereas they have enough extra busses/trams etc. to cycle in another one without disrupting their service when they need to make repairs.

Boiler inspections are required every year by law. They have to open up the boiler and take a look inside which takes a lot of time and can't be done whenever they want. The trains are easy as there are more than one so they just take out the one for service.
