No, i did not ride the attraction.
Will i? I don't really know at this point, but I don't think i'm going to make it a priority.
My butt hurts and i'm cranky about not being let on. I spent 4 hours camped outside of SSE. That really short music loop, which yesterday was awesome, today got very annoying very quickly. I can see the SSE CM's losing their cool with it in a few days.
Just to clarify.. why i'm cranky.. I learned a lot about the imagineers, management, and CM's working at Spaceship Earth by sitting there quietly and hearing their conversations. A good lot of stuff I didn't want to know.
Lots of fighting. Lots of it. Maybe it's better called "bickering" because fighting implies fists, but these were full-on verbal spats between people in the walkways of Epcot. C'mon folks, you're "on stage." If anything, let this thread serve as a reminder to all of those folks at SSE today: YOU ARE ON STAGE. GUESTS HAVE EARS!
Other stuff i learned: There's 1 manager dude who says if people get on the ride. One CM at SSE worked with him at Test Track and "he's strict." There's apparently someone from Paris (France?) who wanted to ride but couldn't who had to get his permission to do so, they talked, i think the answer was no. There's another CM at SSE who thinks my camera will be confiscated and taken to guest relations if i take a picture through a crack in the wall, that Disney is protecting its image and the photos could prove to be damaging and they'd make me erase those. There are imagineers/managers who met up with a forum-member (someone who led the Epcot 25 effort) and granted him a tour, including a photo-op at the entrance of the ride, while the rabble such as myself waited outside. There are several imagineers who did not bother to shave today, or tuck their shirts in, or do their hair - nor cut it above their collar. There's a guy who works for ETC or atleast wore an ETC shirt, so there's probably some source 4's inside of Spaceship Earth. The doors on the refurbs walls don't lock, and the padlocks on the ones in post-show are never actually locked and at one point in the day actually fell off. Several CM's enjoy opening those doors to show guests (their choice) what's behind the walls, both in the postshow and at the front of the attraction. Imagineers like to have long winded meetings in the queue of the ride while the rabble waits outside. Imagineering tends to walk into and out of SSE through the west door at the entrance and then over to the backstage gate by the lockers. Sometimes they carry parts of the ride. Maintenance apparently had the attraction until 6pm, and then it would open if possible, but Imagineering didn't leave until 8pm and it had all kinds of issues.
Oh, and doors to the offices/lounge/etc can be held open by tying the handle to something with an old velvet stanchion rope.
Also, though the ride was cycling for over an hour, no one was allowed to ride, except maybe the person given the tour.
