Hello all! As you know, WDW is filled with attractions old and new - cloned and original. But did you know, there are references to some attractions past and present in the ones you love? Me neither, at least until now! So here we go with the references to old and new Disney attractions as seen in the WDW resort!

PART I Main street:

If you visit MK, no matter where you go during your trip, you'll have to go through mainstreet USA no matter what (unless of course, you have park hopper express, you hop to MK from another park via the bus, then decide to hop to another park, but you get the idea!). This seemingly small, empty land (attraction-wise) is, believe it or not filled with references to other attractions. Where? Well let's see.... hmmmmmmmm...... It was all started with a mouse.... so, who else might have references to Disney attractions than mickey himself?! Yes, the talking mickey will spontaneously bring up Disney characters (Buzz Lighttyear, Jack Sparrow, etc.) during interactions! Side note: he can be a stalker since I had just come from buzz lightyear space ranger spin to freshen up my skills and get some practice in so I could finally beat my dad at the ride, and when I had met mickey, he suggested I go help buzz! Also, Carriage with the Fringe on Top plays as part of the background music which, in my eyes, is a (very loose) reference to the fact that when they don't run the horse drawn trolley, they have the horse drawn carriage (without the fringe on top). While we're on the subject of music, Hello Mah Baby plays as part of the background music as well. And who made that famous? Michigan J. Frog from merrie melodies! And who created some of the characters from that? Mel Blanc! So what does this mean? Well, to me, it's a (again, very loose) reference to how Walt Disney and Mel Blanc worked together on the Carousel of Progress! Blanc voiced Orville, and his voice has stayed the same for the show's entire life! it's possibly also a reference to how we've seen Warener bros. characters in Who framed roger rabbit along with Disney characters.

Note: the Walt Disney World Railroad has 3 stations, and since it runs past/through other themed lands, that will have its own post.

Well, that's all I have for Main street! stay tuned for my next post part II. I will leave a poll to see who wants me to do what themed land next. Feel free to correct me, debate me, or even bring me up on the subject on these references talked about here. Feel free to also add to the list as well! remember: it's all up to interpretation! I also apologize if this spoils the magic for anyone!

Edit: I made a typo! the Enchanted forest should be fantasyland-enchanted forest!

whoever moved my thread, by the way, I thank you! I meant to put it in the general discussion forum, but somehow either forgot to or thought I did, but really didn't.

Or it's an old-timey song from the turn of the century that fits in well with the theme of Main Street USA.

Next, you'll tell us how the songs from Hello, Dolly playing are surely a reference to Wall-E.

I've honestly never seen wall-E so I wouldn't know. I appreciate your feed back, though! and I do agree with you! it is a great song for the theming! I guess I just have a strange mind as I'm not even sure how I came to these conclusions. but, again it's all up to interpretation! Why else do you think GE said that "There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" was not what they wanted for the COP when it moved to MK and they wanted customers to buy their products today? Thanks again for the input!

Anyway, here's one for the Little Mermaid ride. As we all know, it sits where the beloved 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea attraction once stood. In the queue, a sharp eyed guest can spot the Nautilus carved into the rocks. Furthermore, take a good listen to the music playing in the queue area- you may just hear an instrumental version of "Whale of a Tale", the song Kirk Douglas sang in the film.

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. There's a picture of Mr.Toad handing the deed to Owl.

I am sorry for not posting yet! I haven't forgotten, don't worry! I'm just busy! I'd like to add that there are a few mainstreet references I missed. The cabelleros ad in the queue for meeting Mickey - that's referring to the boat ride in Epcot at Mexico. Casey at bat I believe is a (slight) nod to Jean Shepherd who is father at Carousel of progress who also happened to have read that. I'm not too familiar with that, I'm sure it dates back to before shepherd, but I still see it as a bit of a slight nod. The morning show (now discontinued) still said "seven lands and more) after toon town was removed, possibly as a tribute (even Joe Hursh's monorail narration still said seven lands). Nothing too major, but at least it's something. I've also decided to make this not just WDW MK attraction references but also ones to other Disney attractions and just Disney in general. Remember, you're more than welcome to debate, quote, challenge, or correct me on any of these references. The audience is always right! Stay tuned for frontierland refs!
