anyone have any ideas on how to relax when a difficult family member stresses you out so much that you can't sleep & are nauseous all the time? i would just like to be able to relax but i can't. deep breaths aren't working! neither is distracting myself with tv. i'm starting to think its a lost cause. any advice at all would be appreciated. thanks.

Long showers or baths are good. Bathrooms are one of the only safe places if you have to stay in the same house as the person in question. If you can get some private time in a room with a computer, chatting with other people with difficult relatives can help relieve the stress and tension, too.

Of course, the best solution is to get the other person into therapy of some sort, but that isn't always an option. :p

Take up running. Gets you out of the house, burns off stress, and gives you some time to yourself for thinking (or not thinking). I hope things get better for you.

That's what I did last time I was in that situation. I never wanted to be home with the stress so I would run until I ran out of road. Lost 20 pounds in a month and felt great!
