On my next Orlando trip, I want to go to Universal.
Never having been to Universal, I want to know, how many of the attractions are real roller coasters and how many are the motion simulators?

Not as many as simulators you would think by some of the comments here, only 2 pure simulators where your car is effectively stationary with some in place tilting and vertical movement. (Like Star Tours, Soarin, and Mission Space), and 3 hybrid dark ride simulator. (which are actual track moving rides with physical sets and simulator portions, Disney does not have anything similar to these)

List:

Coasters (7):
Revenge of the Mummy (b)
Pteranodon Flyers (c)
Incredible Hulk
Dragon Challenge
Rip Ride Rockit
Woody Woodpecker's Nuthouse Coaster
Flying Hippogriff

3D movies, Non-Simulator (2):
Shrek
Terminator 2: 3d (a)

Pure Simulators (2):
Simpsons
Despicable Me

Hybrid Dark Ride/Simulator (3):
Spiderman
Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey
Transformers

Pure Dark Rides (4):
Cat in the Hat
ET
Men in Black: Alien Attack
Disaster

Flat/Traditional Rides (6):
Suess Trolly
Carosuessell
Red Fish Blue Fish
Storm Force Acceletron
Dr. Doom's Fear Fall
Kang & Kodos' Twirl 'n' Hurl

Live Shows (8):
Horror Make Up
A Day in the Park with Barney
BeetleJuice
Fear Factor
Animal Actors
Sindbad
Oh the Stories You'll Hear! (Suess)
Olivander's

Playgrounds (7)
If I Ran the Zoo (Suess)
Curious Georges Goes to Town
Fivel's Playland
Barney Playland
Me Ship the Olive
Camp Jurassic (d)
Jurassic Park Discovery Center

Water Rides (3):
Popeye and Blutos Bilge Rat Barges
Ripsaw Falls
Jurassic Park River Adventure

Walk Through Effect Shows (2):
Poseidon's Fury
Twister

(a) Has Live Actors mixed in
(b) Contains a "Dark Ride" portion

Mike's list was great.

Yes, Universal only has three larger coasters, and two true simulators. There are quite a few screen based attractions though, and some of them are considered to be some of the best rides in the world (The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man).

Four large coasters. Dragon Challenge counts as two coasters, and then Hulk and Rip Ride Rockit.

Mummy is also not "huge" but its fairly intense.

There are two schools of thought on that. :)

I don't count it as two. I count rides like Space and Dragon Challenge as one ride. I suppose that, technically, they are two coasters each, but if one ride has two tracks, it's still one ride to me, KWIM?

Eh. Space Mountain tracks are identical reverse layouts (except for like 10 feet). Dragon Challenge has two completely different layouts that could be completely separate coasters if they weren't intertwined to share a station/lift and (previously) duel. Have to second that it's two different coasters.

Yeah, there are disputes among coaster enthusiasts regarding racing coasters that have the same layout, two mirrored track coasters like Space Mountain and whether or not they count as two roller coasters, but everyone generally agrees that Dueling Dragons is two roller coasters.

Except RCDB lists it as one!

ITA that they're two coasters, but when I count rides, they're one ride.

"How many attractions have coasters?" Is, IMO, a totally different question than "How many coasters are in the park?" DC is one attraction that has coasters, so I count it as one.

I also count space Mountain as two coasters, but one ride.

I get the other side, though and realize I'm splitting hairs. But there are two schools of thought there.
