Rats on Indiana Jones Adventure?

I was looking at Indiana Jones Adventure on Wikipedia and it mentioned rats in the ride in a tree trunk. For starters, I have never been on the ride since I have never been to DLR, but I have watched POVs and I didn't see any rats. Can anyone tell me what they look like so I can spot them in the video? It also said that the rats "fall" into the car. What do they mean by that? Does the car have leg ticklers or do they drop plastic fake rats (like how they drop fake spiders into the audience in Shrek 4-D). I am just quite curious about it.

They are pretty hard to spot in a video. They aren't AA's or anything like that. It's a projection effect. If you pause the below video at 3:04 you will see a tree branch outline as a projection effect. As your vehicle reaches the "branch" the rats fall on your vehicle making a thud. It's better in person than the video, but still not very convincing.

Thanks for explaining that. At least now I can confirm that I will never be going on that ride since I am afraid of rats XD. At first I thought the rats were these little bumpy things on the wall. One more thing, are there any bats on the ride?

You shouldn't let that deter you from riding the ride. The rats projection only works about 50% of the time, and when it does, it's almost impossible to make out what they're supposed to be. It's about as far from realistic as effects can get.

There's a bat sound effect in one of the darkened rooms, but no visuals.

It's one of the baffling things on this ride that I don't really understand why they did it that way. Indy has this reputation of being one of the greatest Disney attractions ever, but it has so many crummy corny effects it's ridiculous.

- "Indiana Jones" holds back the aurora borealis (?)
- obvious phony projection of bugs on the wall with seemingly unrelated nonsensical air blasts straight out of a Universal attraction
- silly gigantic snake that looks like cartoon Jafar snake
- tunnel with nothing in it, then this crummy effect
- corridor of painted murals of natives with more air blasts
- silly fake-looking Indy mannequin dangling above you saying un-Indy things with some other guy providing the voice

Agreed. (I think we've had a thread about this stuff before, eh?) Would be great to see them do a refurb someday where they go back and spruce up some of the questionable, less realistic / carnival-ish effects and show a more consistent style throughout.

I wish they would "fill in the blanks" in the original ride like they did for the one in Tokyo. Not duplicate the additional scenes, but put something there. The bare black room before the dart room has always bugged me.

I wasn't prepared for how much of an upgrade Tokyo's version is. Would love to see those upgrades come here.

I don't like rats and I will ride Indy multiple times a visit. It's just a projection, a fairly faint one at that. The rats aren't animatronics.

Okay, but if I ever do go on it, it will probably be whenever Disney brings it to WDW (possibly in the place of Stunt Spectacular) since I can't afford flight tickets to Anaheim right now :p

It's been 20 years since Indiana Jones' Disneyland debut... Highly doubt it's ever coming to WDW. It's pretty much pointless wait for that to be announced, just how it's pointless for Disneyland fans to wait for Disney to brush off the old plans for WestCOT as a third gate.
