Rainy days at Disney....

We are headed to the World next weekend and I am seeing 70-80% chance of rain each day we are in the parks... This is going to be a short trip for us (only 3 days in the parks).

Is there many attractions they close down due to bad weather?

I am kinda down in the dumps about it (even though I am a firm believer in a rainy day in Disney is better than a sunny day at work!), but my husband said we need to take FULL advantage of the fact that it will be rainy. We purchased the Disney ponchos last time we were there, so he said we will sling those bad boys on and enjoy the shorter lines!

I really wouldn't be too worried. 70-80% chance doesn't mean it's going to rain all day. It just means you'll likely see the standard afternoon shower or storm pop up- which shouldn't last long. Pack your ponchos and just be mindful of any lightning.

I pay too much money to be put off by rain. The best thing is, when it does rain people leave and is the best thing to shorten rides. I have a good set of waterproofs so I don't get wet. Of course, the downside being wet and rainy weather doesn't make for good photos and shows and parades get cancelled.

That said, of the numerous times I have been to the world, I have yet to be rained out all day. It comes and goes in a few hours (usually).

MK in the rain is awesome. Don a poncho and keep going. Light lines for everything. Another bonus for Disney in the rain is that many of the attractions are under cover or inside so you just need to get from one point to another. Shows, parades, and a few attractions may be affected but for the most part, most of the attractions are operational in the rain. Have fun and don't worry about the weather forecast. The forecasters can't even get the weather right for a day from now let alone a whole week!

First, there isn't a 70% chance of rain. It's 30 or 40%. :)

Second, it is waaaaaay too far out to look at forecasts. Unless a tropical storm is coming in, anything until the day before is not worth looking at. Even the day before, you just don't know. Florida weather is notoriously hard to pin down.

We had so much rain this spring and summer, but we've gone three days now with almost no rain. It's been wonderful! We may be turning a corner, lol.

This time of year, thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening are a frequent occurrence. Use the mornings as much as you can. The water frequently runs ankle-deep in the parks during storms. Bring an extra pair or two of shoes, so the wet pairs have time to fry if you're caught in rain.

Some rides close for rain, many don't. Put on a hat, grab an umbrella or a poncho and if you don't hear thunder or see lightning - go have fun. If there is a risk of lightning, stay indoors. It's dumb to risk your life so that you can ride a ride. We have a LOT of lightning. Don't be stupid. :)

But heaven knows we are due for a break as rain goes. Maybe we will get a nice, long one and you will benefit! :)

Well, its good to hear from someone that actually lives down there... all i am having to go off of is the Weatherbug app on my phone.
They are showing 40% for Friday and 70-80% for Saturday and Sunday.

I know I shouldnt really take much account in the predicted forecast, I just cant help myself :)

It pretty much will rain just about everyday. Normally little showers. You will see chances of rain too almost everyday. Pack a poncho and keep going.

Get the weather channel app. It's as good as any, I think. Again, the weather is exceptionally difficult to predict, so don't look at it until the day before and even then, don't count on it.

I of course would rather not have rain but if it does rain it doesn't impact my touring plan. The rides usually stay open unless there is lightning.

My experience has generally been that the rain clears out fairly quick. Especially when it's afternoon showers.

I don't mind the afternoon shower. It cools things down and tends to send some of the crowd back to their resorts. I love going to the park during a light rain or after a shower or storm. FYI, if it is storming during the parade time and then stops, then they usually run the parade late.

I just came home today from Florida. It rained every day except one I think the past week. However as many others have said here, it doesn't last long, even though some times it can be a little intense for 15 or 20 minutes. For me it's just all part of the Florida experience, so I wouldn't let that deter or worry you in any way. Just have fun! :)

We had the loveliest rainbow today. Big, arching through the sky.

There's another bonus to rain. Occasionally, there is a rainbow. :)

Do not get down. I am still dealing with PDD (Post-Disney Depression). Choose the outdoor thrill ride of your choice. Ride it rain, shine, and at night. You will remember the rain experience. Night rain is a bonus. I think the #1 rule to dealing with the rain (and Disney altogether) is to wear appropriate clothing, namely, synthetic fibers. Watch everyone else scramble for cover. They're not avoiding the rain, they're avoiding the discomfort that comes with it. Seriously. There are those that wear ponchos on Kali, and there are those that don't.

I loved, LOVE, when CMs don't even take your FastPass and direct you through standby: "No wait, just come on through!"

I saw the Electric Parade during a steady shower.

Next week is when the summer crowds disappear and the parks go in "off season".
Usually, the parks aren't very crowded at this time of the year. If rain is coming, just expect the park to be extra empty! I myself don't particularly like rain at the parks; it kind of dampens my spirits, but it could be nice sometimes. Just pack a poncho and be prepared. Usually, these Florida showers only last a couple of minutes, so it won't be that bad.

When you see that it's about to rain, go visit a ride or a show. By the time you wait and get off, the shower would have probably ended.
Anyway, goodluck and be safe at the parks :)
