Rain Ponchos

I'm trying to lighten our load this time and thinking about rain ponchos.

I own decent ones and they saved the day one year when there was a big storm. I kept the freshly printed princess pictures under the rain coat when the stroller was blowing over and all the attractions were packed to capacity due to storm. I stood outside and the rain coat kept me and the pictures pretty dry.

I also own the disposable ones. They are from Coleman (camping) so a decent brand.

I do have access to stroller storage. So i can keep them there as long as no one walks off with them. I want to save some room in my bag for a light sweatshirt for when we go inside. My kids and i freeze.

So, is it better to bring disposable ones to last (hopefully) a week or nicer ones that take up some room? We are headed there during the warmer months.

Thanks!!!

It's a matter of personal preference, but I just like to bring a bunch of the disposable ponchos (you can get a 2-pack for $1 at our local Dollar Tree). I drop a couple of ponchos in my park bag (and if I know it's going to rain, also a couple of mini-umbrellas), so I won't have to worry if they get damaged or dirty during use, since we're tossing them anyway.

In truth, we've been VERY fortunate, and I have never actually had to open up those ponchos or umbrellas at WDW! I've been carrying them with me for the last 3 WDW trips, and we've never encountered more than a quick, passing shower, and all of those occurred while we were indoors at an attraction. :)

The weather reports I was going by for May 2nd and 3rd had us Floridians thinking it was going to be a brief rain shower. Instead, it became a weekend deluge of Noah's Ark proportions. Ok...maybe not THAT much rain, but it rained for a good part of the weekend. If it was a brief rain shower, then just wait 20 minutes and continue on. So, we didn't pack the ponchos. Unfortunately, we had to spend the $$$$ for ponchos at the park for two kids and mom & dad. Lesson learned. Next time bring ponchos weather it rains or not. ;)

We pack enough of the cheapo ponchos for each of us to have one per day. Each morning, we carry a poncho for each of us in our park bag. If it rains, we throw it on and continue our fun. Once it is done raining for the day (or we're done for the day). We throw them away. Those that are unused at the end of the trip stay in the suitcase for next time.

another vote for disposables. as far as your valuables, we put all the ponchos in one large ziploc bag and then use the ziploc for all pictures and electronics should be the deluge happen.

We get the disposables, and on our way out of the park on a rainy day (or on our way out of Kali River Rapids, when we also wear them) we offer them to incoming guests. They're always eagerly taken!

I second the disposable poncho suggestion, but also recommend a heavy-duty stroller cover (make sure the back of it covers the basket too). I found it invaluable last May during the typical Florida afternoon thunderstorms. Everyone donned ponchos, smallest kid in the perfectly dry stroller, and we were off without having to wait for the rain to stop.

Playing off that last post, if you rent a stroller from an off-site company, make sure that they give you the rain cover. Also, remember to do a test run on the cover. You don't want your first time putting on the cover to be when your little pumpkin is getting wet. Nor do you want to find out during the downpour that the rain cover they sent isn't big enough for your rented stroller.
