Raglan Road Offers Genuine Emerald Isle Charm, Fresh Irish Fare and Lively Entertainment

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- A true slice of Ireland comes to Walt Disney World Resort with the opening of Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant at Downtown Disney Pleasure Island. Owned and operated by an Irish company, Raglan Road features the very best of authentic Irish food, drink, heritage and live entertainment.

The Irish culture is known for its warmth, character and hospitality, and Raglan Road delivers an experience immersed in genuine Irish ambiance. With capacity for 600 guests, Raglan Road is warm and welcoming with custom furnishings, lighting and wall coverings -- all designed and built in Ireland by Irish craftspeople. Irish antiques, ornamentation and bric-a-brac complete the authentic décor.

Four distinct antique bars, each more than 130 years old and imported from Ireland, serve as focal gathering areas. These grand fixtures were crafted from rich woods, such as mahogany and walnut, and feature marble adornments, leaded glass and ornate detailing. To complete the authenticity, and in keeping with tradition, a wide selection of cold, creamy and fresh Irish beers and fine Irish whiskies will be served.

Traditional and contemporary Irish music, storytelling and dance help create a spirited social ambience, and the friendly pub staff brings Emerald Isle charm to Downtown Disney. Irish musicians entertain nightly and guests are encouraged to sing, clap and dance to the lively performances.

The restaurant's gastronomic delights are the creation of Master Chef Kevin Dundon, one of Ireland's best-known and most celebrated chefs. With training in Ireland, Switzerland and Canada, Dundon has cooked for celebrities and heads of state, including Queen Elizabeth. His credits also include opening an award-winning Irish hotel and restaurant, appearing in his own television series on UK Food Channel, making numerous national television appearances in the U.S., U.K. and Canada, authoring the cookbook "Full On Irish" and being invited to cook at the prestigious James Beard Foundation in New York.

The Raglan Road menu offers bistro-style Irish fare and fresh ingredients, all with a modern flair and Celtic creativity. Natural tastes, flavor and quality prevail in dishes such as Raglan Rack (rack of lamb on a delicate Irish stew consommé), Kevin's Kudos (oven-roasted loin of bacon with an Irish mist glaze, served with braised cabbage and creamed potato) and Salmon of Knowledge (fresh grilled salmon with a hickory-scented maple sauce).

For guests wanting food to go, Cooke's of Dublin is a counter service location adjacent to Raglan Road where fish and chips and other quick and casual fare are available. There is also a retail location that offers Raglan Road and Irish-designed clothing and merchandise.

"We are thrilled to introduce an authentic Irish pub to Downtown Disney," said Djuan Rivers, vice president of Downtown Disney. "The superior level of quality, authenticity and energy that this new venue brings is a perfect complement to Downtown Disney's lineup of world-class retail, dining and entertainment."

"Having built more than 400 Irish pubs, literally in the four corners of the world, we believe that this is our best expression yet," said Paul Nolan, Raglan Road co-owner. "We are incredibly proud and excited to have the opportunity to bring a real slice of Ireland to Downtown Disney."

The "real" Raglan Road is located on the south side of Dublin. It was made famous by renowned Irish poet Patrick Kavanagh in a love poem entitled, "The Dawning of the Day." In the 1960s, Irish folk singer Luke Kelly first put the poem to music. "Raglan Road" has become a seminal Irish song and has since been covered by such artists as U2, Sinead O'Connor and Van Morrison. As a tribute to Patrick Kavanagh, a specially commissioned bronze sculpture of the poet sits outside Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant at Downtown Disney.

Raglan Road is owned and operated by Great Irish Pubs Florida, Inc., the Irish-owned company that previously created Nine Fine Irishmen at the New York-New York Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

Pleasure Island club admission is not required for entrance to Raglan Road.

How Irish can this place be without old fishermen in Fishermen Sweaters sipping guinness or guys with shaved heads and missing teeth watching sports on the telly? We have Irish bars around where I live, I feel this place won't be like any of 'em.

My bet is that this will be a huge success on the strip. It's a natural for the Pleasure Island area because culturally there is alot of "grog".

Separate entrance

Can you get into Raglan Road without paying for PI? Is there a separate entrance or do you have to have PI admission to eat there?

I was just at Raglan Road for what im guessing was a soft opening Friday night. Man that place is gorgeous and pretty authentic looking too. Im guessing that the fact that admission to PI isnt required because they are trying their best to lure people in... PI is seeing some hard times as far as attendance is concerned... now they are letting the cast in four nights a week instead of just one to try to compensate a little. My Friday night at PI was FANTASTIC... we went to the Adventurers Club where I ended up running into my Idle Joe Rohde... The designer of the club itself as well as The Animal Kingdom and the mastermind behind expedition Everest... I diddnt quite know what to say and I was a little choked up but it was amazing none the less. There were several imagineers their and im guessing they were checking out Raglan Road for its soft opening. I heard them talking about all the things they had found (props on the walls at the adventurers club) that they would like to take for their own personal use... so so cool. I think some big things may be in the works to put PI back on the map.

- No other restaurants have admission fees at Downtown Disney, just the clubs. Thats why its free.

- PI isn't having attendance problems. Since they made the change to not have a gate and have payment at club entrance, attendance is way up.

- Idol is spelled as such

- The "other imagineers" you are talking about are mkt and WDWScottieBoy from these forums. Not imagineers.

wow thanks so much for completely putting me in my place... I thought I would try posting on these boards but i guess i shouldnt....I already sent you a message but maybe ill just make it public..

1.There were other people in the club who were with WDI and they were sitting right next to me in the middle of the room away from joe. They supplied props for the adventurers club.

2. PI has been having attendance problems in the individual clubs and that is what i was speaking of, at least thats what ive heard from several cast members, one in particular who is a manager at a pleasure island club

3. Raglan Road you'll find is the only bar/restaurant in pleasure island that doesn't charge and a fee to enter and its the first to do that... yes thats probably due to the fact it is the only restaurant in pleasure island.

5. some people are not perfect spellers and you should get over it

4.I can't believe someone would be so rude to me on here, you really know how to turn off a new poster... thanks allot

you shouldn't try to make so many enemies.... I would leave the boards but I wouldnt give you the satisfaction

As an Irishman looking at those photos makes me feel strange.

Firstly what's with all the church like stain glass!? Here in Ireland, church and drink never mixed in public! True irish pubs are small spaces, smelly and dirty (although not as bad since the smoking ban came in), where you can feel close to your friends and family. The smallest pub in Ireland is in Dublin and would hold around 20 people!

Kevin Dundon is not a celebrity chef here! Who IS Kevin Dundon!?

Too much emphesis on the UK. The Republic of Ireland left the UK in 1916! Is there any evidence of our 'little' rebellion in Orlando? Queen Elizabeth has never visited here and is not that well liked!

And why is the same guy chatting up the red head in one picture and has a family in the other? Do Irish guys really get around that much!??? That's definitely the same smile! :-p

I think that is true for any real pub, regardless of what country it is in. They are small, cramped, dark, smoky, and sometimes loud.

Hopefully they will at least have good drink, good food, good service, and not be so god-awful loud that you have to shout in someone's ear to be heard.

What I said was that the people you were talking about with Mr. Rohde (I don't think you know him well enough to call him by his first name only) weren't imagineers. I don't know if there were others there, because I wasn't there. However, since mkt or scottie didn't make any mention of them that I saw, I would think there weren't.

Don't trust CMs. Attendance might not be what it once was, but it is better than it was a couple years ago.

I said Downtown Disney, not Pleasure Island. The fact is that RR isn't a club but a restaurant, and as such doesn't and will not have entrance fees.

If you think he's someone you want to look up to, you should probably know how to spell that. Spelling doesn't bother me, but you're here going crazy over him then you call him your idle. Haven't you ever seen the atrocious show on Fox? You know, American Idol?

New poster? You registered nearly two years ago.

I wasn't attempting to make enemies, but I don't care if you don't like me. Doesn't bother me any. I was simply correcting the falsehoods in your post. I probably shouldn't have mentioned the "idle/idol" thing, but everything else is a valid reply to what you posted.

If you don't like that someone would reply with information contrary to what you are saying, then you might be right in saying you shouldn't post. Thats your decision to make though. But you have to realize that if you are going to post something, it might be wrong and therefore get corrected.

Are you sure that isn't just the Guiness talking? :D I kid, I kid.

The stain glass is better than no windows or regular windows, IMO. Stain glass doesn't always mean church. Especially if they aren't religious scenes.

As for the size, you have to remember that WDW has to make everything big, or its pretty pointless. Have to be able to fit lots of people to make lots of money. :D

Quick google search. I've never heard of him either, but I'm not into cooking, and I'm not from the UK. Looks like he writes a lot of cookbooks, though.

What exactly are you referring to when you say there is too much emphasis on the UK? Like, what in there says "I'm from the UK, but not Ireland"? (Honestly interested)

Thats a great catch, it is the same guy! They could have at least had two different male models for the publicity shoot.
