Rafiki's planet watch?

Is there anything to do at Rafiki's planet watch besides watch baby animals get feed and ride the train back and forth? Any rumors of this becoming a Zootopia land? Seems like a no brainer. Just send the train the SDL and replace it with a monorail and put in a nice e-ticket trackless dark ride.

not a bad idea. I haven't been there in awhile. is there enough space to build a few attractions, or would that interfere where they keep the animals at night?

There is a building that has several exhibits and a viewing area where if you are there at the right time, may see a veterinary procedure taking place. There are CM's in the building who answer questions guests have. There may be enough interest to make it worth your time, depending on your interest. I personally dont spend a long visit there. It used to be more worth my time because Jiminy Cricket would make appearances. Now, I'll still visit because I do everything in the park.

I remember seeing the medical procedure. 1 reason why we haven't gone there in awhile is the last 2 times we went, there was a big Python there. wife is terrified or snakes.

Been to Animal Kingdom multiples times but have always avoided Conservation Station/Rafiki's Planet Watch because I thought it would be boring. I am definitely going in September if only so that I can say that I have visited it once. Guess I'll find out if we like it or not.

Rafiki's is more of an edu-tainment place. They have a lot of animal handlers out with their critters and it's exactly what the Conservation Station should be. You can see the vets at work, there's also the petting zoo (mostly goats). If you're looking for something with high thrill value, this isn't it, lol.

Honestly it's one of my favorite parts of the Animal Kingdom. The train ride back and forth is fun, lots of animals in various stages of rehabilitation to see, and of course all the goats you get to pet :)

I visited there for the first time this past July. I actually liked it quite a bit. It's definitely edutainment, but it's still a nice experience. It's probably the most underrated part of Animal Kingdom.

It's great for kids who love animals
I would agree with you about it being underrated and my husband would most definitely agree with you. If you have an interest in animals, conservation, learning or all the above, then this place is great to visit. If you're looking for a thrill ride, this isn't it. This is a very small version of what Communicore at EPCOT Center used to be like but with a different theme. There are a lot of exhibits that you can learn about on your own as well as several Cast Members that are there in which many have a great deal of knowledge. My husband can spend hours there just talking and learning…I almost always have to drag him away.

And if Hidden Mickey's is your thing, there are probably more Hidden Mickey's throughout that area than any other area in any of the parks.

We saw an ape having a tumor removed about 3 or 4 yrs ago. It was exciting, and the CM was answering all the questions people where having. It's not always exciting, but it's a relaxing train ride, and see a few goats.

They used to have a lot more interactive consoles and exhibits there, to play edutaining games and learn more about protecting the environment. The first time I was there, back in the 1990's, I was disappointed with the Affection Section, because it promised "exotic" animals to pet, and instead featured goats, which aren't exotic no matter what country they come from.

I used to work there so I'll start by saying I'm a tad biased about rpw. I like the idea of a zootopia attraction but it wouldn't go there. Rpw is all about Disney's conservation efforts and it has some cool things in it. Throughout the day they often bring our small animals for guest to look at up close and sometimes touch. The vet area is super cool the most interesting thing I've seen there is the lioness getting a toe amputated. The food station is also interesting because you can see the types of food some of the animals are given in the parks. Plus if you are doing to wilderness explorers, there are tons of badge locations over there. Now if I had to choose between Everest and rpw I would be on Everest in a heart beat but rpw is a nice break from the business of the parks and you can really see how Disney takes care of their animal in the park as well as around the world

My children would be quite mad if I neglected to put this in our schedule every year. Though its not like a thrill attraction its interesting and they always have fun. We have always seen animals getting checkups behind the glass vet area. There has always been a little presentation with an animal (last year it was a hawk). We meet Rafiki and never have encountered a line at all. They love to pet the cows and brush the goats etc. We always spend more time than we planned on and have to leave to get to a fast pass or dining or something.

I've visited this area a couple of times...it always feels underdone...and the fact that they're using what has to be the fakest steam train doesn't help the love factor with me...
