Quiet Spots in US and IOA

I am spending 6 days split between Cabana and Portofino in a few weeks. I am currently suffering from trigeminal neuralgia which is a painful sensation in my face from my jaw to my temple accompanied by headaches in the temple on my right side.

I have an appointment with a neurosurgeon when I return from my trip but during the trip will be controlling the pain with medication.

When I have the pain it takes between 20-40 minutes before the pain killers work and in that time I am most comfortable sitting somewhere out of the sun (can be outdoors but in the shade), preferably a bit out of the normal traffic pathways and will be resting my head, eyes closed and massaging my temple. I basically look like I'm sick and in pain and don't want to alarm anyone so I'd prefer to have less exposure to the public.

If you have a favourite shady spot that may be off the beaten path in either of the parks or anywhere on property please let me know.

At IOA, I'd say Jurassic Park has the most of these. The Discovery Center is a fairly large and indoor area that also has a dining area with places to sit. From my experience, it's not super busy, and I believe there's some sort of tucked away terrace around that area too. WWoHP also has a sitting area by the lake that is a bit hard to notice, but I believe it's near the Hogsmeade bathrooms.

At US, I'm not as sure because I haven't been there in as long, but the area by Men in Black and Fear Factor Live usually isn't super busy in my experience and is partly shaded.

USF has a Central Park area along the lagoon, right off of Sunset Blvd. Lots of trees, and it's very low traffic until people start showing up for the lagoon show at night. The Garden of Allah across the way would be even more secluded, but I think that's currently closed off.

You can also go behind the buildings on the dock in San Francisco. There are benches back there.

There's also Sting Alley in NY, which is right in the middle of the park, but most people don't even realize it's there.

In IOA, heading towards water is your best bet. Every land has some sort of path along the lagoon that most people bypass.

Portofino has lots of nooks and crannies to hide away too, including your room which will be a short relaxing boat ride away.

I'm not real familiar with US, but I commend you for not letting your medical condition keep you from enjoying your trip.

As long as it's not during the lunch rush, Thunder Falls Terrace at Jurassic Park is a really nice place to sit down. Go to the right section as you enter and you can watch the ride vehicles as they splash down.

At Diagon Alley, there's a stairwell that goes nowhere between Escape from Gringott's and the Magical Menagerie. If you keep going up there's room for a couple people to sit and be out of the way. It's not really quiet up there, but it is shaded and you can look down on all the guests scurrying around in the alley.

There are [at least] two First Aid stations in each park as well as one in CityWalk. Not really great places for people watching but there is air conditioning.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I made a few notes in my trusty travel journal.

Thank you. I'm looking forward to the trip. I figured I'd have to manage the pain at home as well and I'd much rather have bursts of pain surrounded by the fun of Universal rather than seeing the same old, same old at home.

If your at the studios and don't mind leaving the park, there are some quiet spots along the walking path to the Hard Rock that might be about the same distance as the walk to the City Walk boat doc.

Everyone has made great suggestions so I really don't have anything to add but I am familiar with your condition. I know how painful it can be and wish you well. Have a great trip!

I like the Back Water Bar at Confisco's- you can get an app and cold tea- TG sucks, I hope the surgery works for you! I aslo agree with the First Aid centers, you can lay down for a few minutes :)

I don't like that lounge. Kids crawling all over the place, and it's more like the waiting room at a Doctor's office. It's not very quiet in there.

I had to check it out once, it is OK but it got very crowded and seemed more like a free clinic waiting room than a doctor's office to me. Hoped for more from AmEx
