Quick service dinner at DHS

Before everyone starts to say anything about the terrible QS food at DHS- don't care. Or, um, well, I do care but DH not so much. We have a PH on arrival day that we are finishing up at DHS, or else, says the dude, which puts us in a place where we'll be getting there AFTER 6pm, non-negotiable. As he has given up a lot, I am conceding this one to him. *sniff*

Soooo.... suggestions? We are having a table service lunch at 2:30 (Tusker House) and would be wiling to bring snacks to DHS and do dinner at AoA, but then we are talking 8-9pm, and I dunno that ANY of us will be keeping our eyeballs open much past that, since we're hoping to make rope drop at MK the next day.

TIA!

This is purely based on online reviews thru those found on the Great search engine. This is a first time trip, just FYI. DH has been as a child, I only spent one day at Epcot many moons ago (15yrs, maybe?), and we have 4 girls ages 4-8, tho they're not typically picky eaters. Thanks!

There's a ton of QS options at HS. Not as varied as in Epcot, but I have a hard time believing they are as bad as some here act like.

You can always go to Disney's website and check out the menus, or try sites like Disney Dining. The unofficial sites usually load quicker IMO.

We like the pressed sandwiches at Studio Catering, the carrot cake cookie at Writer's Stop is a nice snack as well as the cupcakes at Starring Rolls. I've never had the sushi at Starring Rolls, but I've talked to others who liked it. You could also look into leaving the park for a bit and look for some treats on the Boardwalk as that's an easy boat ride (or a moderate stroll) away.

If it was one or 2 people saying they were bad, you take it with a grain of salt, but when almost an entire website, dedicated to WDW says it, there is some truth to it. At each of the other parks, I can easily list out some QS places that serve good food, at DHS I can't do that. It is marginal at best.

Just look on the menu bar of this site and you can see the dining options available at DHS.

We liked the Backlot Express for QS food. The burgers and chicken were decent and the option of eating outside under the shade was a plus for us. Nice atmosphere for re-fueling at DHS.

I like the Sunset Ranch Market. Love the WWII-era nostalgia, there's a decent variety, it's very pleasant when the weather is nice, and it's right in the middle of four attractions, so it makes for a good "base".

Nothing wrong with you stating your opinion, but no need to tell me that mine is wrong either. FWIW, if I listened to half the negative things being said on this board, DH and I probably would not have planned our trip to WDW at all. Yet, when I came out and asked if I had made a mistake by booking our trip, I was flooded with reassurance that we would have a great time. Neither vibe came from just "one or 2 people." If I was to take word here as gospel, I would be constantly confusing myself, running from one extreme to the other.

Besides, if it's THAT bad, why are there already four people who have been able to mention positive QS dining experiences on this thread alone?

Fairfax Fare has chicken, ribs, pork sandwiches, etc. But the reason I'd eat there is the location, especially later at night, because Sunset Boulevard will be all lit up and Tower of Terror will serve as a cool backdrop to your meal!

I don't believe I said you were "wrong", I said "there is some truth to it" that the QS was poor. Based on my own personal experiences at that park and the many, many other posters on this board who have voiced their similar opinions on the QS dining options.

I did say that it was marginal at best. Of the people who mentioned "positive dining experiences", One liked one specific type of food at one place, one said the food was "decent" and then were very positive of the atmosphere and outdoor dining. Another mentioned "decent" variety and were positive of the atmosphere at the restaurant. One didn't give their opinion of the food, just named the 2 better places to eat at. Not exactly ringing endorsements of the QS at DHS.

Similar threads, like the one asking about QS at Epcot for example, has pages and pages of positive responses. MK has the same and AK has the same.

So the OP asked for opinions, I gave mine. Yes, I quoted your post, but didn't attack it or you.

If you can hold out for dinner at Landscape of Flavors at AoA, I would. It's better than any of the QS options at DHS by far. DHS isn't terrible. But the consensus is that it has the worst QS of any park. I avoid eating QS there whenever possible. But put a gun to my head, everything I have had there is edible. Look at the menus and pick whatever sounds best. Odds are, it won't be bad. There isn't anything I have had there that stands out enough for me to recommend it. It's all passable. I have heard horror stories about the ABC Commisary. Other than that, just go with what appeals to you the most.

Le sigh. Yes, a little of this. BUT, also, a LOT of "meh"-at-best opinions, were read by both DH and myself. What followed was a little menu research that left us underwhelmed, to say the least. Since we couldn't find anything positive, (and, seriously, the menus were...) I thought I'd try the good people of these forums to help give us some perspective. So thank you to everyone! I'd love to just pop in to Epcot for dinner, but let's be honest, ain't nobody gonna be hauling 4 LOs around after a half travel day for dinner- actually, when put that way, I'm sure we will be happy with a bowl of cereal and our beds, ha!

That actually sounds kinda perfect! I think we are gonna try to see the Little Mermaid... um, show? while we are there that night, plus whatever else we find that is close, unless we can score a FP+ for Toy Story, so looking at the map, Backlot Express might be out of our way...? If we must do dinner in the park, I will make sure to keep this in mind. *writes it down in binder*

Understood. I will def keep in mind, and suggest this again, should we be crashing and ready to head back to the resort, instead of hunting down dinner. Thanks so much, everyone!

We really like Backlot Express. They have a great vegetable sandwich. My daughter really likes the salad with chicken on it. I think it's the Asian salad. We also love being able to get free refills on drinks, especially in the hot weather. There is a really good, huge ham sandwich at Staring Rolls, but I think they close early. I didn't really like Studio Catering, but the others in our group did. For the kids, the little pizzas at the pizza place--can't think of the name at the moment-- is a good choice. I've never understood the hate for the QS at this park. There's not a lot of choices, but the choices are just as good as elsewhere. Don't be discouraged by people who don't like certain things. People on sites like this have pretty strong opinions, including me.

Backlot is actually pretty close to Toy Story, which is close to Little Mermaid, which is getting closer to Fairfax Fare :p. But Hollywood Studios really isn't too big, relative to the other parks I guess. I wouldn't worry about getting around - you should go for whatever fits your fancy!

If you're going to see Little Mermaid, check out The Magic of Disney Animation too - drawing class and you keep your artwork as a souvenir :).

The fact that you quoted me and then commented made your post read like you were directing your post at me. Sorry if I overreacted, but surely you can see why I took it that way.

Backlot for the location and theming. OK food but I love me a Disney burger and fries. ABC is the only place in the entire resort I ever thought was really bad and I'm not a picky eater.

With the DHS QS places, you just have to have realistic expectations and check the menus ahead of time. Pizza Planet was a good choice for me, wife, and kids, 4 and 7. We also typically get good meals at ABC Commissary. Backlot Express is also adequate.
