Hey Im going on May 12 through the 19th. I have resos right now at POR (Dixie Landings) My question is im thinking of upgrading to WL. Is staying at Wilderness Lodge worth the extra six or seven hundred???

Your input will be very helpful.

Thanks.

I absolutely love Wilderness Lodge, and the queen beds are a must with my family.

However, if the double beds at POR are OK for your group, I wouldn't spend the extra $$. $600 is a lot of money that you can spend on other things.

A possible compromise would be to spend your last day or two at WL.

My family has stayed at WL twice, the second time with my parents along also. At first, my father was very reluctant to spend the extra $$$, but after he got there, he said it was worth every penny and can't wait to go back. He is a Boy Scout leader and loves the outdoors, so we assured him in advance that he would love it. After he saw it, he said it was even better than we had described.

The theming is fantastic, but you should also consider convenience, and where you will mostly be traveling to within the World. It is pretty convenient to get to MK by boat, but busses to the other parks are usually shared with the campground, which takes a while.

I think you need to consider what you're looking for:

Will you be spending a lot of time in the resort? Or mostly in the parks? Not worth spending an extra $600 for a room you'll only see in your sleep.

Planning on spending a lot of time at DTD? The boat from POR is convenient.

Planning on spending a lot of time at MK? The boat from WL is awesome.

Do you really need queen size beds? For me, a slightly larger bed isn't worth $600.

While WL is gorgeously themed, so is POR. What do you like best? Are you outdoorsy type people? Or do you like the idea of staying in the old South?

Either way, I think you'll enjoy it. Both resorts are great.

600 dollars is a lot of money. Unless the transportation and theming is that important, I would stick with Port Orleans. If you can really afford it then and the 600 dollars isn't a problem then you may want to consider it. But if it would be a strain, don't waste the moeny.

Yeah true, and another possible thing to do is try and use discounts out of the Entertainment Book or use AAA, it saves you a bunch. We stayed at the Swan resort last year, original price a night was $500. Just using the entertainment book, it knocked off half the price bringing it to $250 a night. The cool thing about that was, was that it was in April and right through Easter, when rates tend to be expensive.

Listen.. if you call 407-wdisney.. make the reservation and then tell them "I'd really like to stay at the wilderness lodge, but I can't afford it" they probably 9 times out of ten will upgrade you.. This information you can find here >> www.mousesavers.com or just read this :)
Several readers have reported being offered upsell rates for stays starting in late February through early April.
Some asked about booking at the All Stars, then asked about rates at the Moderates and were offered Port Orleans (Riverside or French Quarter) or Caribbean Beach for $119 standard. (Regular price for All Stars Preferred View in Peak Season is $119 and regular price at the Moderates in Peak Season is $169, so this is a nice deal -- you are getting an upgrade for essentially the same price.)
Also, I've had two reports of people who got Wilderness Lodge upsells after asking about Port Orleans. One was offered standard view in Peak season for $189 and another got courtyard view for Regular season (late April) at $145.
There is no guarantee you'll be offered an upsell rate, but you can try asking about All Stars and then saying "I would like to stay in a Moderate resort, but I don't think I can afford it...." You never know, maybe the agent will be able to offer you an attractive rate at the Moderate. Same procedure applies if you're interested in a Deluxe -- ask about a Moderate first. Don't use the term "upsell" -- apparently agents are sensitive to that word and much less likely to offer a discount when it is used. Thanks to Jennifer D and Brenda B for info!

Well said. If you look down at my signature you'll see that we've done both recently. To us it comes down to time spent in the room. We use it just to sleep and shower. We'd always done deluxe assuming that moderates were a big step down. They're not. WL does have the advantage of being the most contained resort. You can walk down to refill your mug without bothering to put on your shoes. However, for the cost dfference, even with discounts, I can afford to buy a lot more than a couple of bottles of soda on our way from the airport. Both are truly great places to stay.
