Quick Question about Reservations

DH and I have been able to work out a "kid free" week long trip in January thanks to the grandparents (so excited, I can't even tell you!!) We took advantage of the 25% off a room at Pop, but now that we're re-thinking things, we will be better off to go with the Free Dining for that week. My question is this...will I have to cancel my current reservation which will refund my one night deposit and then turn around and make my reservation for the package with my $200.00 deposit, or will they allow me to change it over and pay the difference with the same card? Thanks for your help!!

If you are changing your reservation from room only to a package, then you had it right: your room only ressie will be cancelled and that deposit refunded, and a new reservation will be made for the package with a $200 deposit due. The reason being is that there are 2 different companies that book Disney trips, one being the Walt Disney Travel Co (packages) and the other being Disney Destinations, LLC (room-only). Funds can't be transferrred between the 2 which necessitates the cancelling/rebooking. HTH!

With any reservation, if they cannot simply change it over, book the new one and get it confirmed FIRST! That way if something happens and you cannot get it, you don't also lose the existing one. Think about it, canceling a 5:30 Le Cellier for 4 thinking you can get one at 6:15 for 6, but that falls through, and then you have no Le Cellier.......

It is definitely worth checking into. We had planned on booking a mod with the % off code but then when we looked more closely, we saved more by going with free dining. (We didn't realize at first that you only needed to stay 3 nights and only needed to buy 2 days worth of park tickets to get free dining.) The other thing to consider is upgrading to a mod. If you are planning to eat even 1 table service meal out, it might be worth the upgrade to get the better dining plan.

French Quarter - Thanks for the tip. I hadn't even thought about that. We are planning on Crystal Palace and the Biergarten, so that might be worth it. I've always said it might be fun to do with just the two of us. However, if I go ahead and book the Quick Service plan and decide later on that we want to upgrade, can we just call and upgrade it? Will there be a point in time where it is too late to do that? I think these specials say they have to be booked by Nov. 21, if I remember correctly. Would the upgrade have to be done before then?

I'm not sure when you'd have to upgrade by but there is a certain time. Also, you have to pay out of pocket for the upgrade. What you pay for the upgrade might be no more than the difference between staying in a mod over a value. So, for the same price, you might get a better resort. Be sure to price it out.

I priced it all out with the package deal. There is only $150.00 difference between the quick service dining and the upgrade. And, yes, I know we would have to pay that $150.00 out of pocket. We'd spend that between the Biergarten and Crystal Palace anyway so I think we're going to go for it. Staying in a mod resort is no biggie to me. We've stayed at POR twice and we have stayed at Pop and ASM before. I'd just assume spend my money shopping than stay in a mod resort. Thanks for your help.

And how much difference to stay at the mod and get the regular dining plan for free? What I'm saying is that it might not actually cost much more than the $150 that you're going to pay to upgrade from the quick service plan.

It would have added another $400.00, so it's a no brainer. I'd rather shop. Don't get me wrong, the mods are nice (stayed at POR twice), but I can't really justify another $400.00 on a room I'll hardly be in. Thanks for walking me through all of that though. It was very helpful.

I don't blame you for going with the Values to save the money. I was just making sure that you did the math because if you could stay in a mod at no extra cost, why not, right? But I see that you have done the math and that doesn't work out for you this trip. Enjoy your time!
