Questions about the CP and my chances of getting it...

I'm currently a freshman in college and I'm going to my school's meeting for this at the beginning of April for the fall 2009 CP. It sounds really fun and I LOVEEEE Disney, so it seems like a really great oppurtunity. However, the thing is, I've never had a job before. I've volunteered at my old elementary school before where I worked with kids and I currently write for a school email newsletter thing, but other than that, I really haven't had any real actual paying work experience. Will this hinder my chances big time? The roles I'd like to apply for are Recreation and I'm not sure what else. I'll decide later. What do you guys think? Would it be hard for me?

Also, what exactly do people in Recreations do? Why is everyone saying it's a good role?

And also...what are some of the least popular roles? Would it be strategic to put these roles down as the roles I want? To be honest, I don't care which role I get as long as I can work there. That means I'd even take custodial.

And lastly....Do they look at your GPA when looking at your application? How important of a factor is it? <!-- /onionskins --><!-- /#discussion.box --><!-- google_ad_section_end -->

I can't really answer your questions about the CP (I'm applying this coming fall for Spring '10), but I will say that if you are worried about not having had a job beforehand, just work in the cafeteria at your school or something. Even the most menial job will give you an advantage and help you learn how to deal with people (harder than you'd think, sometimes). At disney, you'll be working with lots of cranky guests, so I would think having some experience with rowdy college students would at least make you feel better about it. Plus, you don't want to get down there and get overwhelmed!

(Spoken from someone who applied to her caf on a whim and now practically lives there :zipit: )

In my opinion, I think you should just apply, and see what happens. There is no penalty and anything held against you if you apply, and they decide they do not have a role for you, and you can try again later. As for needing prior work experience, I dont think that really having a "paid" job has anything to do with it. If you have any type of experience, paid or not, is better then nothing, and those are the things you will want to highlight in the interview. The interview, at least from what I remember, is really a way for them to get to know you and how you would handle situations that a cast member may come apon. You are applying for a basic job that you will get trained to do. They also have the career start program that are for High School students, and they too are doing similar jobs as the College Program people, and I wouldnt think many high school students would have much work experience.

I dont know much about the recreation position, but I think they do things like man the marinas, and such. I really have no idea.

The roles they are looking for to full that have the most openings are 1) Quick Service food & Beverage (My role in 2005), 2) Custodial (My role this summer), 3) Attractions, 4) Merchandise, 5) Lifeguard. If you were to apply for these roles, my bet is that you would have a great chance of getting in.

As for GPA. They look to see if you are in good standings. And it is required to be in good academic standings with the school before you can do the program anyway. So if you have a good enough GPA to go back to school in the fall, then you are in good standings with Disney to do the program.

ok yeah, i think i'm still going to apply. I'm a little iffy on my gpa. it's not good, being my first year of college and all. i'm still trying to learn the ropes, but at the same time, it's not absolutely horrible and i'm not flunking out or anything. but yeah, i think i'm still going to apply and if i don't get it, i'll reapply for spring 2010 i suppose.

Yeah, that would work. In my opinion, I think the spring is a better time to do the program. Reason being, you start in January, after all the major holidays. So the crowds are really low. Also, as i said, after the holidays. If you do Fall, it does run through all the end of the year holidays. So if you are a person that does family stuff for these holidays, that you will miss out on those, and you will be working your tail off b/c the place is busy. Starting in the spring, ramps you up to the major crowds of spring break and the beginning of summer. Unlike fall which you have the possibility of coming in when the crowds are high, and learning your role wile things are hectic. But again, my opinion, you make the choice of when you think you want to go. Good Luck!!

take some easy classes next semester to help raise your gpa

If you apply during your interview they'll ask you things like, "if offered a position, would you be willing to work qsfb" It's ok to say no...I did and still got accepted...for custodial. It wasn't that bad, I ended up really liking it. Most of my friends were jealous because I had so much freedom and my job was so laid back.

Personally, I enjoyed working there for the fall program
