Questions About Going to WDW around Christmas!

Hey Everyone,

I am planning a trip to WDW...at first it was going to be in May, but now it looks like it'll have to be the first week of June. But I have a few questions...

What is the average temp in Orlando during the first week or two in June? Especially compared to May?

And how crowded is it in June (first week or two) compared to the crowd levels in May? Is it a big, noticeable difference? Are queue levels longer?

Any other info would be great, too. Thanks.

I went to WDW the first or second week of June, but this was when I was in third grade...so I don't really remember much. I do remember that it was very hot and humid. My parents have told me that it was quite crowded when we went. I've never been in May, but I would assume it would be better then going in June because of the summer crowds and heat. Again, I was in third grade so I don't remember stuff like the temperature and crowds.

PacMan2006, I would recommend http://www.intercot.com/infocentral/weather/whentovisit.asp to read more about the crowd level.

Basically it will be "crowded" any time on/after Memorial Day Weekend. Compare that to "really crowded" for the 4th of July week, "extremely crowded" for before and after Easter Week, and "most crowded time of the year" for Christmas through New Year's.

What the different levels mean number wise--I don't know.

Weather wise for June:
[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Arial, Helvitica]TEMPERATURE (AVERAGE) - HIGH: 91ºf / 33ºc
TEMPERATURE (AVERAGE) - LOW: 72ºf / 22.5ºc
RAINFALL (AVERAGE) - IN INCHES: 7.3
COMMENT ABOUT THE MONTH: Starts to get very busy as schools break up for the summer.

Thanks everyone.

Another question for a different time of year...I checked out that website, but I'd like to get actual opinions...

How is going to Disney World in December? Is it impossible to get on the rides you want due to the crowd levels? Is it uncomfortable due to so many people/kids, or is it not too bad?

We love going the first week of December. The crowds aren't bad and it's not too hot. I believe the second week is the same way.

Thanks Pink.

Do you know when the Christmas decorations/celebrations start at Disney in December? Is it the first week? Second week?

And are there custom "Christmas Show" or parades that you get in December that you otherwise wouldn't get in any other month?

First week of June is actually the best summer week to go, IMHO. The parks aren't very crowded yet, and the temperature is usually hot, but not as bad as it can be.

But if you want to avoid crowds, be sure to check gaydays.com for their park schedule. As I understand it, that Saturday has been known to fill the Magic Kingdom to capacity, and it can get pretty crowded in the other parks on the days everyone's supposed to meet there. Whenever I've been there during that time, I've always gone to each park on the day after their schedule, and had good luck with wait times and food lines, etc.

Also, in June, don't forget about Star Wars Weekends! They have lots of cool stuff going on at MGM. Every weekend has two celebrities from the Star Wars movies (I've seen Billy Dee Williams, Peter Mayhew, and the incredibly awesome Anthony Daniels, to name a few) and lots of great shows and activities.

They usually start decorating for xmas right before Thanksgiving. And there are lots of Christmas shows! Especially if you go to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party...it's a separately ticketed event with a special Christmas parade and Christmas shows all throughout the Magic Kingdom. They even have a special Christmas version of Wishes, and snow on Main Street, and free hot chocolate and Christmas cookies throughout the park. ^_^

Thanks again, everyone. Ethyl, thanks for your comments.

How would you rate the crowds in December? And also, what week in December did you go? Were the wait times for the rides and such very long?

We went 10th-14th this past year and it was amazing. The crowds were light-average as were the ques. We only passed up a couple rides because of wait times, but that said, we didn't wait longer than 15 for any ride (except I waited a long time for Soarin', which I shouldn't have!)

The weather is just about perfect for walking around. I didn't take sunscreen and we were jeans to the parks every day.

The MVMCP is awesome!!!

The Osborne Lights were already on before Thanksgiving this year. The parties started on November 13th this past year. The Epcot happenings began on Nov. 24th this past year.

You can check allearsnet.com under "Themparks" for all of the holliday happeneings. On the left side, they have the months lilsted with the special events for that month listed.

Apparently I'm going to keep posting until I remember to mention everything. =P

There are also Christmas redresses for both the MGM and Animal Kingdom Parades...and the Animal Kindom one is awesome. MGM has the Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights, which is really nifty. Epcot has a holiday storyteller in most of the countries and a big lighted canopy over the walkway between Future World and World Showcase where the lights dance to instrumental Christmas Music.

I hope I haven't forgotten anything else.

We were there this past November during Thanksgiving week. The decorations were already up when we went, and the hotel decorations went up during the week.

We always go the first week, and it's usually very light. The waits are almost as short as September. For example...min./max. waits on most of our xmas trips--Splash: 0-30 min, ToT: 0-30 min, Space 10-30 min, RnRC: 0-30 min, Pooh 15-60 min. Pirates, Snow White, Philharmagic, Star Tours, Dinosaur, Primeval Whirl...these have almost always been just a walk-on for us during this week (provided we go on a non Extra Magic Hour day).

This sounds so great. So would you all recommend going in December? If so, which week?

And you don't think the crowd levels would damper the fun? I like WDW, but sometimes if it's just TOO many people, it ceases to be fun and more of a burden in some ways. So I'm just curious about that.

Oh, and how's the temperature in Dec?

Thanks!!

First week, definitely! The fewer kids are out of school, the smaller the crowds will be.

And the temperature in December is unpredictable. Pack for both warm and cool, and be sure to pack a jacket for the evenings. If you forget, the minimum you'll pay for one in the parks is $40. I was there during a cold spell once (in March!) and I'd forgotten to pack a jacket for the trip...I ended up buying a $20 blanket in Mexico & bundling up in it to watch Tapestry of Nations. ^_^

(Good blanket too...I'm covered in it right now. :D )

December

We always went in December, we left the day after Thanksgiving and stayed for about 10-12 days. We love it! It's not too crowded (although the crowds got a little busier the last few years) Christmas in Disney can't be beat. The weather you can't judge. We always thought the weather was beautiful. It was always around 75 to 80 but one of the last times we went, we had some real cold night weather at night, remember to bring a sweatshirt and wrap it around you during the days but you might need them at night! We ended up buying sweatshirts two years because it was hot during the day. When night time came, the weather changed dramatically at night and we froze!
