Questions about counter service at Wilderness Lodge

On our "rest" day, we want to visit Wilderness Lodge just to wander around (it looks so pretty in pictures.) If we go around lunch time, can we have lunch at the counter service place? Can we use our refillable mugs if we have them with us?

Sorry if those are dumb questions. On previous trips, we've never eaten anywhere other than our own resort and the parks.

Anyone have any pictures of the counter service place there? Or pictures of the food? Thanks!

You are free to eat at the counter serve location if you go to check out the resort. The technical rule on the mug question is that your refillable mug is good only at your resort during the length of stay of that specific trip. Now, if the new security system isn't in place at the resorts there won't be anything stopping you from using the mugs there. However, the ethics of that are something that have been debated about here since the beginning since it technically is against the rules.

(And let's not turn this into a refillable mug debate folks...thanks)

So even if it was a mug purchased on that specific trip, I can't use it since it was from a different resort? Is that correct? I have no problem leaving the mugs back at Pop Century and just buying a beverage at the food court (which I'd most likely do anyway since I like bottled water) if those are the rules. I'm not so cheap that I can't pay a few bucks for beverages. :)

Yes, that's correct.

Feel free to eat at any of the restaurants and stop by the Mercantile for some shopping. There is no food court at the WL though it's a snack bar called the Roarin Forks. They will have hot food, sandwiches and salads as well as some goodies. Click here for menu, of course it may have changed a bit, but you get the idea.
There is limited seating in the little dining room so why not take your meal outside to the patio, it's a great place to relax.

Cups are to be used in the hotel they are bought in and for only this visit, sorry.

Are adults allowed to order children's menu items for themselves? Odds are, we won't want a big lunch or anything.

You can order anything you want because there really isn't any way to check who eats what...I've never used the dining plan so I don't know if that would make a difference. If you are using it and it's not allowed the food isn't that expensive so one meal out of pocket might not be that bad.

Okay, cool. We don't do the dining plan so that wouldn't make a difference for us.

Feel free to order what you would like. My sister has sometimes done this at table serve places when she hasn't been that hungry and they never care.

We really enjoyed Roaring Fork last trip. The service was EXCELLENT! I know Hollybelle has a few RF breakfast shots in her wedding trip report. Here are a few pics from an unexpected dinner we had there one night.

The sandwich was turkey w/havarti cheese with tarragon spread on some kind of nice grain roll. The side is cucumber salad and you can see my chocolate caramel filled cupcake :slurp: The other pic you can see some of DH's pizza and the burger our girls shared.

Not the greatest pics, but it had been a very long day and the dining had not gone as planned that night (we were supposed to eat at 'Ohana). In any event, we'd definitely return.

When we stayed at the Wilderness Lodge last summer, we were concerned at first, because Roaring Forks is a relatively small counter service spot and always seems to be packed with people.

But we learned despite it's smaller size, they are very efficient at moving people through, and we never had to wait long for our snacks.

There's also a nice little outside patio to eat on that really soaks up the Wilderness Lodge atmosphere.

I loved Roarin Forks, the 'made to order' sandwiches were the best we had all holiday, and they had a good choice of cakes, pastries and snacks. The patio was in a very nice position but beware of the food stealing birds!
