Questions about booking Universal Vacation

Is it true, you can only get the AAA rate by booking through AAA or travel agent? Also, if we book now for July 2010 (and we do it direct), if a discount comes out, can it be applied to the reservation like at Disney? Also, if we book direct, can we call Universal to make payments in advance?
