Questions about adding a day to a package and Disney Magical Express

I currently have a reservation with park tickets dining plan. We are thinking about adding a day at the end of our trip but do not need to have a day added to the dining or park tickets, thus it is less expensive to do it as a separate room-only reservation. We also have never used Disney Magical Express in our 15+ trips as we have always driven but will fly this time. Here's my question (s). If we get the 2nd reservation at the same resort, check out from the 1st and check right back in, does that effect the use of the dining plan that same day? Also, how will DME work since the return flight will technically be on a separate reservation?

Your dining credits will expire at 23:59 on the change-over day. So you can use them for dinner that night, just not for breakfast on what will the be your last day.

As for Magical Express, that’s fine. If you have already booked it, just phone and explain once you have your flight details. Otherwise do it all at once. Probably easier to do it with a phone call than online. You effectively book a one way trip for each stay: from MCO to the resort for stay #1 and from the resort to MCO for stay #2.

Even if you have to add a night at a different resort, both the dining credits and Magic Express still works the same
