Question w/ Animal Kingdom

Hey. I heard from someone that the animals are not very active and are hidden from view on the safari ride when it's cold. Since I will be there in December, I would like to know if this is true. Thanks.

You can see animals in the winter. I don't know much about the way they handle them - but I do know the the lion has a huge rock that he can lie on, which is heated. Which helps keep him in view - he can just lie on his rock 'heat pad'.

When I first rode the Safari in December of 98 their were hardly any animals. I remember I waited in a long line for a handful of animals, and the bridge wasn't working.

When I rode it this past August, their were a lot more visible animals.

i heard the best time to ride the safari is early in the morning to see the most animals. weve ridden on it about 5 or 6 times and everytime its been different as far as what and how much you see. the bridge wasnt working for us either the last time we were on it. :lookaroun

I didnt notice any difference between June/July/August/September/Dec in terms of number of active animals. Infact, I believe they were more active in the colder weather, as they were not all seeking shelter from the sun.

I agree with Steve... Everytime I rode it, it was different. I think the animals are more visible in the winter as they are not all napping with the hot weather. AK does get cold in winter...of course, it depends on where you come from...

I was always of the opinion that the early morning was the best time to go on the ride, but the last time I went on it was the best! It was raining cats and dogs, it seemed that the amount of animals double from the other times I have been on it. So if by some chance you are strolling by the safari and it starts to rain get in line--you won't be disappointed!

Some animals are active all day like the Giraffes and Elephants and Gazelle.

Some of the animals are active only in the early morning hours and sleep all day when it's hot, like the Lions and other cats.

I was told it's best to go on the Safari early if you want to see these animals. I went there when the park first opened and made a mad dash for the Safari ride and got GREAT views of ALL the animals.

However...(Here comes the bad news)...the last time I went to Animal Kingdom I found they had shortened park hours and were opening an hour later. (9:00 AM) While once again I ran ahead of the crowds to get on the Safari ride early, I didn't see nearly as many Animals as when the park opened at 8:00.

Pssssssst....Disney....the people pay good money to show up early to see these Animals...open up early again so they can.

Unless the weather changes much in the next few weeks, don;t worry about it. It is plenty warm. In fact the safari we did on Nov 24th was great. we saw more animals than we had ever seen. In fact something spooked the Rhinos and we had to stop our safari truck to allow the rhino's, including the baby, to run across the road. This in turn provoked all of the other animals to start runing and we had to wait about three or four minutes for things to calm down and the road to clear before we could go again. It was really a neat thing to see.

I am a former AK cast member, and it does not really matter what time of day that you go on Safari, you are going to see animals. I personally like riding it in the afternoon right before it closes. As for who ever mentioned riding it in the rain, that is an excellent idea because for some reaon the elephants that we have seem to swim in the rain and not at any other time. If you see a lion up walking around you are pretty lucky because Lions sleep an average of 16 hours a day! Talk about having the life!

see it in the morning or afternoon and you should have a good safari! The cooler the weather the more active the animals....

Yes..you will ALWAYS see some animals on the safari...what I said was...if you want to see the CATS...you need to go early. My wife and I Love seeing the lions on the Safari treck...but since the late opening it's been harder and harder to find them active.

Good luck finding the cats. They like to sleep a lot of the time, but I am sure that if you go when it first opens or when it is about to close you will have a good chance of seeing them because they are going to be a little more active because they are ethier coming from or going to the back stage habits.
