Do either of you two ever take your ideas beyond just text???? All I've seen on here are people with ideas and some are hits and others, well not-so-much. Anyway I was wondering if either of you 2 ever really sit down and design anything besides what you just type on here? Do either of you paint, draw, use autocad, anything? Also do any of you ever worry that someone out in cyberland is going to take your ideas? I'll tell you this much, I know of a certain person wanting to be an imagineer one day and this person loves going around to all the disney forums collecting ideas from people like us. I've posted a fair few of my ideas on this board becuz....why not but more and more I'm realizing just how competitive the bizness of wanting to become an Imagineer really is.

Well, it's not so much that I don't how to draw pictures for the ride; I do that really well! The truth is, I don't put these pictures up because I don't know how to do so and nobody bothers to tell me. I tried displaying one picture using my digital camera, but the results were none too satisfying. When the time permits, I will try to use a scanner. Can you explain how to put pictures up?

I don't know how to attach a photo via this forum but what I suggest is creating a yahoo photo album for free via yahoo photos and just posting the link. I would love to see your illustrations for the many-a-idea you post on this board. Or you could always create a blog account of your own via blooger where you can keep track and update your ideas whenever you want. Then you can be selective on who see's your brilliant ideas and who doesn't (that's what I'm doing).

You never asked...

And BTW... Don't translate rides... that's just not done... :D

I just don't have the time to draw out plans for my attractions anymore, besides i'm technically in the field now so my real best ideas never even make it to these boards and really, I dont care if people steal my ideas, if it helps them get one step closer to fulfillment then I am happy.

and yes, my ideas have gone beyond text. i just really don't have the time and the energy to pull out all the stops just for this message board.

anyway, this will be my last post in this entire forum, ciao!

Well, good-bye stitchcastle. I'll miss you. And I was so looking forward to your ideas on how to improve the non-WDW Disney parks. Oh, well, maybe others will do it. (singing) Happy trails to you, until we meet again.

Specialization in Imagineering-related fields.

This is an interesting topic I've been wanting to discuss for awhile. I read this forum whenever I see something new pop up in it because I love the combination of elements present in theme park rides that make stories I may otherwise be disinterested in engaging, exciting and memorable. However, it seems that much more frequently than not, the only thing presented is textual -- making little use of the possibilities the media allows -- and derivative of others' work. Where's the fun and education in that?

Similarly, I work largely as an consultant on machine design and mechanical engineering projects when the opportunity allows. That, by itself, doesn't lend itself very well to fully exploiting this theme park media, either. While I understand that, within the context of an organization like WDI, few people fill the project manager role, I've become very curious recently about the amount of diversity in experience and creativity that is appropriate when applying for a position in this field. Is it better to cultivate and present the limited skills I have as, say, a writer and artist or is it expected that I limit myself to what I've been best at and present only my mechanical design experiences?

In that vein, I've some ideas floating around in my head that have been there for years and I've recently begun, under the guise of learning to use new software (like SketchUp and Pro/Engineer), more fully exploring and realizing those ideas. I'd love for feedback on them, but since they don't come with a concrete narrative or anything more than an evocative feeling, I'm not sure if it's worth the effort or if they're far enough developed to bother.

Any ideas on a good balance between reality and fantasy when it comes to demonstrating aptitude?

Going to miss you... Shame you left that new Magic Kingdom park thread just when you started it. But I still hope to see you again. I have more optimism for your possible return then Grizz's...

Madison,
I would love to see what you've come up with...now I'm just a rescent grad with my degree in fine art, and I work for a toy company (currently working on Shrek 3, Spiderman 3 and a new Disney Princess line) as a concept designer so I'm not sure if my comments or constructive critisim would be valued but still I would love to see what you've thought up. The reason I started this thread is that I'm so tired of people that say they have ideas but never get them off the paper. As for stitch's remark of "no time" I laugh in his general direction. I work from 8-5, come home and I paint on a daily basis and when I'm not painting I'm working on my portfolio and website and most of the stuff I do for it revolves around my passion for theme design. Once again I laugh then yawn in his general direction. Also I wanted this thread to get into what mediums, programs, processes, etc others take when creating their ideas. So far it seems not too many actully carry through. Oh alas alack!

you all do understand that most people only post here for leisure.

and besides, the whole "someone in cyberland might come and take your ideas" starkly contradict your demands for things beyond text.

Does this mean I can or can't use someone else's ideas? Because Figment fan allowed me to use his ideas and in return, I told him he could use some of my ideas.

With IMG and HTML both being off in this forum, it would be impossible to post anything but a link to any picture ! :(

I spent much of the last year doing something similar to what your work seems to be. Interesting.

I'll start back in on things and take some screenshots or something of some of the ideas of mocked up in SketchUp. For whatever reason, my workflow in SketchUp is very time consuming -- the opposite of what it's intended -- and it takes me quite a bit to get what I want out of it.

Response to S.E.A.

Actually I never "demanded" anyone to post images. I simply was asking if anyone really does anything more than text. The only thing that was somewhat contradictoray was the fact I was warning people to be careful of what they post and that I myself have posted ideas and images on here. I think you're missing the point chief. The entire idea of me asking if anyone here does anything more than text was to start dialouge between artists, however expert or novice they may be and what mediums they use. May it be a brush, a pencil, AutoCad, etc. I was simply demanding a thread to discuss what Imagineers in training are using to convey their ideas and dreams beyond this forum. I do understand that the majority of the demographic come here is for lesiure and fun but I have met a fair few people who are serious about their dreams especially when it comes to Imagineering.
