Question regarding Disney & Universal fans

Okay, I want to know if Disney fans are, like, at war with Universal fans or something. 'Cause that's kinda the vibe I'm getting around here. I mean, when someone posts about a rude guest, people say stuff like "They belong over at Universal" & stuff like that. I love Disney World like my 2nd home, but I also love Universal. Is that a bad thing? Are Disney fans supposed to hate Universal?

Trust me I know how you feel. I am one of those people that love the both parks just the same, but have to see both parks get pooped on. Unfortunatly there are over zealous and bias people on both sides. The sad thing is that some of us that like to make logical arguments about the pros and cons of both parks can't make arguments with out fanboys ripping each others heads off.

I will try to leave it at that.

I don't think very many peopel feel that way, Disney4Eva. I think we just see Disney as the better park because of it's quality of rides and stuff. But most of us have been to Universal lots of times. Heck, I used to have an annual pass there, because they're so cheap (One good thing about Unviersal).

One can say they love Disney forever and still love Universal.

They aren't not mutually exclusive.

Both companies run different types of parks. I think they could both benefit if they would both stop trying to compete and instead focus on their individual strengths, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy the experiences both have to offer.

To answer the original poster, yes, some people feel as if there is this competition between the parks and therefore some people are fiercely loyal.

Most of us, however, are reasonable enough (even if we don't particularly like one of the choices) to understand that different people are looking for different experiences and those of us that enjoy a diversity in attractions and shows can enjoy both of them relatively equally for what they are. Universal can never match the Magic at Disney, for instance, and Disney seems unwilling to give us that more mature "edge" that Universal has.

I've been an AP holder at both, and enjoy them both for their own reasons. Both are having seperate issues right now (quality control at WDW, lack of new attractions at UO), but they both still offer experiences I'd deem classic. These days I spend the majority of my vacation time at WDW, both because of cost and the fact that there is little new at UO - the only attraction of note that has opened since IOA went in was Mummy, which replaced one of my all-time favorites.

So I guess I will always prefer Disney, if I had to choose, just because there is more to do - but I'm glad that I don't have to. I think you will find many people who feel the same way, or at least don't hold this deep-seeded grudge that a small percentage of Disney fans feel. The only thing I can think of that could spark such anger is maybe they are jealous that we got cardboard cut outs in "Buzz" and "they" got one of the best dark rides ever created with "MIB"...but that's another thread altogether. ;)

That said, while comparisons are usually valid, the conversation here will be slanted mostly towards WDW for obvious reasons.

AEfx, who's not ashamed to admit his loyalty lies to whatever park can give him the best rides at the moment

I get the feeling that there are many Universal haters on this site, but you know, I hate things like baseball, but still watch ESPN!

Many just seem to not chat about Universal here. There are plenty of quality sites out there for that and even a Universal section on this site for "Globe" chat!

As someone stated earlier, they're two different companies trying to go after the same dollar. They do it in different ways. People on the East end of I 4 know that Disney started it all in Orlando and they're still the new guy in town. People down on the West end know they're the reason so many other theme parks are running today.

I have AP's to Universal, the beer parks, and might get a Six Flags one this year, I used to have a Disney AP, but it was either a new set of tires and brakes this year, or the Disney pass. My fiance won the battle, I have great new tires and brakes that work! She says this way, we can drive down to the parks safely! Oh well, what can you do!

In closing: I like both companies. IOA and USF offers something that Disney can't in areas, and Disney does the same in others. We're lucky to have them!

.....

I love both companies, and they both have their good points.

Universal: Universal Studios has some rides and attractions/places that are so nostalgic for me it's not even funny--movies like Back to the Future(I grew up with that), and things like I Love Lucy and Betty Boop are precious. Beetlejuice goes without saying...he was one of my heroes when I was little :) The new attractions like Shrek 4-D and Revenge of the Mummy are truly amazing.

Islands of Adventure: Has so much technology it's not even funny. All the "lands" hit on my obsessions: Marvel Comics, Toons (Popeye!), Dr. Seuss, Jurassic Park(wow--one of my favorite movies--it plays the score, and I wanted to cry when I first got there because I felt like I was in the movie), and FANTASY (right up my alley..dragons, wizards, middle-ages type theming.) The Hulk, Spider-Man, and the Dueling Dragons are some of the coolest rides ever made and Popeye and Dudley Do-Right make me grin from ear to ear.

Now, on to Disney.

Disney is one of my prime obsessions, and not only do I love the history and founder, I love the classic as well as the new rides, not to mention the vast number of movies under the Disney name. It's not even necessary for me to describe in words my love for WDW--the place is magic. One of the main advantages Disney has is the amount of attractions.

My family usually alternates between the two each year.

The companies are at war, but the people don't need to be. Even though I cringed at the cheap shot Universal took at Disney ("If you're tired of fairy dust...") I would NEVER hesitate to go there. If one is truly a fan of good theme parks, both are very enjoyable in their own ways.

oh! random extra thought

OH, and I forgot to mention I got to be in Animal Planet Live in Universal--and hold a HUGE constrictor snake.

I was in heaven.

I'm a die hard Disney nut (just ask my GF), but Spiderman @ IOA is my favorite ride in Orlando. I think UNI really hit the nail on the head with that one. Disney just offers a different experience and has a mystique that really draws me (and many others) in.

Huge constrictor. Isn't that an oxymoron?

haha, a bit, a bit.

but different species are different sizes, and since it was awhile ago, my memory fails me as to which species it was. All I can remember is that it was one of the larger species, and it was albino. That's what I mean by huge--bigger in comparison to other constrictors. :)

I like both, but we can get Universal done in a day if we rush, we usual stay at the hard rock for a night, and then go to Disney for like 9 days.

I think the Disney/Universal fan rivalry is a bit overexagerrated on these boards. I believe that Disney fans far outnumber Universal fans -- and that the vast majority of those who visit Universal come to Orlando to visit WDW first (ever notice the large number of Mickey and Woody Woodpecker rain slickers being worn at both parks?).

Universal is a great also-ran, but even they would admit that they are riding on Disney's formidable coattails. I am personally glad that Universal is there to turn the heat up on Disney to create great attractions. As fans of theme parks, we win!
