Question on upgrading room (and paying for it) at check in

Could use some help please. Currently I have a Standard Royal Room booked. I booked it with the summer discount. I am thinking that I want to change it to garden view as I am one of those people who like to open the door in the morning and see pretty surroundings rather than a parking lot. I am NOT looking to get a free upgrade. My question is that if I try to upgrade the room at check in, will they just charge me the $10 per night upgrade charge or will they re book at the full price? I don't want any problems with trying to do this.
Thanks for any assistance!

If you want it, you should call and book it now because they may not have any available when you arrive. I don't know how the pricing will work at check-in. I tried to walk in and get a room with an AP discount once and the desk clerks said I had to call to get the reservation.

So, I stood there, at the desk, on hold with Disney, waiting to book a room in the hotel I was attempting to check into right there and then. Pressed the buttons. Got the person on the phone, made the reservation, hung up and checked in.

You may make this much easier on yourself by calling now instead of while you're checking in, lol.

You'll also get the room you want without risking it going to someone else.

Thanks so much for the response. I will probably give them a call ahead of time. I am just afraid that they will cancel my original and rebook at the non discounted rate.

If you call, they will check availability at the discount you originally booked, if it's available they'll confirm that it's "OK" with you before doing any changes. If it's not available, they'll check for available discounts on what you want. If there aren't any, your original booking will still be intact.
