Question for DVC members...

I just had a quick question. Has any DVC members (other than us) have problems trying to get into the resort that you bought into? We bought into the Boardwalk back in 2000 and we have never been able to stay in there yet. Instead, we've been staying mainly at OKW, which is a great place as well but we were looking forward to staying at our home resort to see what it's like. We love the whole carnival life atmostphere but have never had the chance to stay there...always booked. Could you tell me if you hear a lot of the outside noise at nighttime? I wonder if perhaps after all the remodeling if more rooms will become available to DVC members....hmmm, wondering.:veryconfu

Just was curious to know! The OKW resort is awesome itself but doesn't have any waterslides which is what my son is really into now. Anyone know if we're still allowed to "pool hop" between resorts?

wow, I have never heard of that. I think mom and dad went into OKW, so that is our home, but we had no problem getting into the Boardwalk villas.

my only thinking goes along with yours, perhaps after the renovation, it will all even out?

and maybe after the villas at the other resorts are open, they will start spreading out there too.

When are you trying to book?, any fexibility in your times or are you trying for the most high demand weeks? Also are you trying to get a 2 bedroom or larger? I know that all the 3 bedroom grand villas were all under construction and now have been finished. Also did you try booking 11 months to the date when you check out?


Pool hopping for all other resorts is allowed for any pool except SAB, since BCV is open, DVC members are no longer allowed to pool hop there. You should be getting a newsletter in the mail soon, if not call MS and ask for one.

I have heard that BW is very pouplar. We are new VWL members, but wish we bought at BCV instead and hope to stay there soon.

I could be wrong, I'd have to check our guidelines but I thought you could book 8 months out from when you want to travel. The book is right here...I should just look it up. Anyway, we tried to book July 11th-21st back in December and there were no BW rooms available. We're pretty flexible as to when we come and go so I don't think it's that reason. This time, we're staying in a studio at OKW, usually do a one-bedroom villa, but we used some points for our Christmas excursion last year so we were kinda low on points this summer. Is the booking time at your home resort really 11 months? Wow, I've gotta re-read my guidelines.

Yep 11 months out. The word on the www.disboards.com on the dvc page is book 11 months to the day you check out at your home resort, then change it 7 months if you are trying to stay at a different resort. You may have to get on a waiting list, but many people get what they want. With BCV opening, it will take some congestion off of BWV. When we bought at VWL our MS rep said that it was the hardest to book at since it has the fewest rooms, but from reading dis boards it seems BW is the hardest.

I am planing to try change our ressies from VWL to BCV if possible for our March 1 to 7 vaction 2003.

Check out disboards page on DVC members there have alot of experince and can be very helpful.

WOW! I can't believe that's your home resort and you never got to stay there. :brick: I would be bummed. I bought into the OKW when the DVC first started and have stayed at OKW and Boardwalk. Although the last two times I've tried to reserve a room at BW they have been fully booked. It's a great place and convenient to Epcot. Last time my husband and I stayed there was November 2000 and we were on the second floor right above the Boardwalk. You can hear people outside when it's busy but it's pretty muted and we didn't notice it too much. You can always request a room on a higher floor. Another time, we had a room on a higher floor overlooking the pool and though it would be very noisy but found it rather quiet and did enjoy some of the antics of of the Keister Coaster crowd.

That last time was this past April for a December reservation. Even though it was more than 7 months out they told me both the WL and BW were full for the week in December I wanted.

Keep trying though you will eventually get to stay there. I guess the earlier you plan for BW & WL the better chance you'll get to stay there. One good thing about the OKW is that you can always get a good room there even at the last minute and the rooms are larger also.

But you'll have a lot of fun at OKW. Enjoy!:wave:

Since joining DVC, we have always stayed at OKW, except one time which was Christmas last year (we stayed at the Polynesian then for the easy access to the monorail and the Christmas festivities), and have loved it each time. The one thing I wish they would invest in at OKW would be a couple of slides so the kids can shoot down. That's our son's biggest complaint at OKW but we're going to try to do the pool hop things this summer (leaving in 23 days!). I love the whole atmosphere of being laid back at OKW but I as just wondering if anyone else had problems getting into BW or their home resort. Hopefully this time we won't be bouncing off the walls though...we're in a studio instead of a one-bedroom villa (due to using some points for our Polynesian stay at Christmas last year).

Thanks for all the replies regarding when you can start booking. I think that might be our first thing to do when we get back from this July trip...book for next summer! LOL

My family have only been members for about 2 years. We bought into vero beach and we havent stayed there yet. We did stay at OKW and it was the best.

The Studios at OKW are a good size. I've stayed there with just my husband and there's plenty of room. It's a good size for up to 4 so you shouldn't be bumping into each other :brick:

The bathroom is basically the same as the one bedroom villa. There's a small kitchen area with microwave, sink, coffee maker and small refrigerator and there's also a small balcony. These are good size studios compared to the same accomodation at the other DVC resorts and you can't beat the minimal points. I'm staying there in December in a one bedroom for 5 nights for just 80 points. I think that's incredible. I could go 3 times a year with those points. I love the OKW!

Well, depending on how many points you have I guess you could; however, don't forget that the points are more during the different seasons. Like we're staying at the studio from 7/11-7/21 (getting in at 8 p.m. on 7/11 and leaving 9:00 a.m. on 7/21) and it's costing us like 174 points! It just all determines when you want to go....we usually go to celebrate our anniversary (7/17) and then at Christmastime. I think we used 62 points and stayed at the Polynesian for two nights last year at Christmastime.

When we signed up, we only bought the 210 point package. I wish we could afford to purchase more so we can stay longer but it's not in the budget right now. Can't believe it's like $70 for a point! If you think about it, that's one expensive vacation! LOL

That's true. But I usually try to book during the slow seasons (early Oct, Nov, Dec, even Sep is a low season) which is around the same points particularly if you stay Sun - Thu and avoid staying over Fri & Sat nights.

Yes, staying at the other Disney hotels outside of the DVC requires alot of points.

I have the 230 point package which I purchased in 11/92 and the points were alot cheaper then. The package also contained length of stay passes for 7 years for each member of your party until the plan was paid in full. Boy do I I miss that little perk! It as a great incentive/selling point.

The points are way too expensive now but I'm thinking about adding 25 more. Yeah, when I hit the lottery:lol:

10 nights = 174 points.

1 point = $70.

174 x $70 divide by 10 nights = $1218 a night?

That was a real cool incentive for purchasing a DVC membership! I'm referring to the 7 day pass. That would have been so awesome! I found though that you can save $15 off each annual pass with the Disney Club card so we became members. I think with the DVC card you get 10% off like 5-6-7 day passes but confirmed that they do not offer anything off annual passes. We usuallly buy annual passes since it comes out cheaper than buying 7 day passes. Just an idea. (Oh the cost of the Disney Club card is $35 so $15.00 off 3 annual passports covers the cost of purchasing the Disney Club card...another benefit is it's connected with Entertainment and also gives you a free year of the Emerald Club with National Car Rental...we just enrolled in the Emerald Club and saved $70 off a car rental for the 10 days we'll be down in Florida in July). I think it pays off. =)

Not exactly. To purchase extra points, it costs about $70 each.

Our 10 day stay is costing us 174 points which in essence if you multiply the 174 points x $70/per point, it would come out to $1,218 if you thought about it that way. Just think of what it would have costed us to stay at OKW for 10 days if we weren't DVC members.

I'm sure when we're done paying for it (other than the membership dues, etc.) it will be well worth it! LOL:wave:
