Question around reservation changes

Hello all. We are booked from 12/2 - 12/10 currently. We are staying in a 1BR at Riviera the first night on one reservation, then POFQ River View the rest of the time. I recently got a good deal on gift cards and I want to apply them to our trip.

Problem: I've already paid in full LOL.

If I call Disney, are they able to cancel my 1BR at Riviera, rebook, and then let me use the gift cards to pay and the original payment can be refunded to my CC? I was not sure if there was a guarantee I can get the 1BR back if I do it this way. The 1BR is our 'test' run to see if we want to be DVC members, so it was pretty important for us to make sure we get that.

Sorry, I don't have an answer to your question, but what about using the gift cards for your food, and other purchases? That's what we did on our recent trip. I had a bunch. Combined them and used them for all of our food, shopping, drinks, etc. Just a suggestion.

Before you wait on hold for hours to speak to someone at Disney, try this.

Attempt to book one night at Riviera for the date you want. If it is available, book it and pay with your gift card (it will be one of the payment options before you check out.) Don’t worry that the system won’t let you have two similar reservations- it will.

Wait a day or so and then cancel your original reservation online. Your money will be refunded to your credit card usually within a week.

I agree with @Tuvalu, with the long wait times on the phone, you're better off trying to do either all of it, or some of it yourself via the web.
