Question about using Uber at Walt Disney World

I live in a part of Canada that doesn't have Uber, so I've never used the service (bear with me). I also did a quick search in the forums and didn't see anything spesifically about this either...

My family (two adults, one 6 year old child) are going to WDW in early January. We've always rented a car but have been contemplating not doing so this year to save some money. One thing we have been considering (only on really busy days if there are long waits for bus transportation) is to use the Uber app to get a ride from the parks back to our resort (All Star Movies).

So my question is... what happens when you bring a 6 year old child? Is that permitted (as long as they accompany an adult)? The following website seems to give the impression that children 6 and above do not require a child seat in Florida. How does that play out in terms of Uber? Do regular UberXs tend to carry child seats or is it something we don't need to worry about?

There are ways of requesting a carseat via Uber, but since your child is 6, you don't need to worry about carseats. https://www.dmv.org/fl-florida/safety-laws.php Just be sure your child is seated in the rear of the vehicle (to keep them away from front-seat airbags), and you should all wear seatbelts.

For a party of 3, you can use any tier of Uber service you like, or Lyft (I recommend downloading and using both apps; just see which one has better rates or a closer driver whenever you need a ride) at will.

FWIW, we've used Uber at WDW in the past (just for trips from one resort to another) and it worked beautifully. We could see on the app where our driver was (and what he and his vehicle looked like), and our pick-up and drop-off (as well as payment via the app) were smooth and seamless.

Also remember that Uber cannot pick up right outside MK. The official MK pickup is over at the TTC. Or you can go over to the Contemporary for a pickup. That'll add time to your journey.

I believe the other parks' pickups are where taxis go.

Question about this... I’m sure from the MK to the contemporary is only a 5-8 min walk. Whereabouts would you actually set the pickup location? I imagine you can’t specify anywhere close the intersection where the buses turn into the MK, so where on Contemporary property would you want to set a pickup? (that is, if you’d opt for the Contemporary over the TTC for the pickup)

Thanks for all the input folks!!

By the front lobby. It's just past the Contemporary's bus stop when walking from the MK. (Also where you'd want to go if you monorail to the Contemporary to get an Uber)

I used Uber last week at WDW. Dropped off at the red light next to the contemporary (serendipitous, since it saved a few minutes of the walk), and picked up at the Poly front desk.

Doing it to/from Epcot, we were dropped off and picked up at boardwalk.

From my condo in SW Orlando it's definitely more expensive than parking (about $35 RT to/from MK, and $50 to/from Epcot) but if you plan on consuming alcohol, it's worth it. I'd rather not risk a DUI or worse.

Rule of thumb for UBER drivers and users . P/u areas are same as taxis. Uber has really been causing a stir with WDW management because they put guest at risk! Many have been banned, they will try to cut corners ( for p/u convenience) and arrange p/u anywhere you happen to be standing or drop off in bus stops or heavy traffic areas, side of the road etc. This is dangerous, don't put yourself or your family in harms way. It's very easy to tell them you will meet at the Taxi stand. If an Uber driver tells you they have special privileges or know secrets they are lying to you!!
