Question about ticket increase with vaca package

I've had a vacation package (Resort + park tickets) modeled and saved on the WDW site for some time now, while I've been researching. Knowing that park tickets have increased, I went back in and modeled a new vacation package. I put in all the same info (dates, number of people, options, etc), expecting the final price to be more, but it is the exact same price as the other, original package I modeled. What am I missing? Didn't the price change go into effect on Sunday? Again, I didn't go into my original saved package, I created a brand new one. :veryconfu

I'm sure I'm going to feel pretty silly, after somebody points out something very obvious that I am completely overlooking, but I'll risk it. ;)

The only thing I can think of is this. Disney posts it's prices for packages starting in August (typicallly after their hike) they post for the year. Possibly packages will not go up until Disney re-posts for the year. Ticket prices are subject to change at any time. Disney does post specials (promotions) when they feel like it.... but, I don't think they change their packages until August.

You're right...that doesn't make sense. Tickets went up Sunday, so a package containing tickets should increase too.

Package prices generally only go up once a year. Even when the ticket prices go up... the packages stay the same through out their pricing year (August through the end of July) That way people can plan for their year based on current prices.

You won't see an increase in package price until August, that is when they open up booking for the next year.

Yes, you're both right (well, we have to assume they'll wait until August to announce 2013 package prices), but all packages include tickets. And tickets just went up, and the price goes into effect immediately when that happens.

So, if you priced up a MYW package in May, it would have been one price. If you priced up the same package this week, it SHOULD show a higher price, because the ticket component would have increased.

They have never (well in the last 5 years) increased the packages mid year. Even when the ticket prices went up. Theoretically they should... but, they don't. I don't expect to see any change in the packages until the re-do the prices. There is a lot of work and changes that are made when they change the prices.

We are talking about two completely different things.

A Package, by definition, is made up of Room and Tickets (at a minimum) with the option of adding a Dining Plan.

Room and Dining Plan prices are fixed for an entire calendar year. However, ticket prices change in June (now). And since tickets are part of a package, the TOTAL cost of a Magic Your Way Package will now be higher than it would have been a week ago....because tickets went up in price.

When ticket prices change, it's effective immediately, unlike the DDP and hotel rates, which are released in August, but don't go into effect until Jan 1, 2013.

So, what the OP is seeing is strange. If you price up a MYW package of any kind last week, and then again this week, the total vacation price should have gone up because of the TICKETS.

I agree with you... but, even when their ticket prices have gone up... and when their food plan prices went up... the prices didn't change in the packages. Last year there was a big hike in the food plan, and that DIDN'T apply to packages. If you booked it through the package you got the old price for it. That's all I'm saying. It's happened several times in the past few years. The package price stayed the same even though either tickets went up or the food plan went up. This is NOT the first time it's happened.

I wonder if it's just a glitch in their back end. Their websites are terrible. Updated pricing sometime takes a while to actually make it to the price processors.

I'm not sure... I just now that it's happened before, you would think that it could automatically update... but, it hasn't. Not sure why.
