Question about the Polynesian

Alright, my family and I are going down to Disney during President's Week 2004. We really wanna stay at the Poly but at a 2003 quote of $404-505 per night (from Birnbaum), its just unrealistic for us to spend the whole vacation there. So, we're spending 3 at All-Star and 4 at Poly. My question is this: with the attendance slump and insane deals (think Fairytale Magic Package) that they have had lately, what are the chances we will see a better deal? We are booking the trip right now, but will cancel it in a heartbeat if there is anything better. I've been looking at Mousesavers and as of yet have seen nothing, but I guess it's a little early. Heres hoping. We would love to spend more time at Poly. When did Disney World get so outragoiusly priced that the average family can't afford to stay there? Walt would be rolling over in his grave if he knew about this.

Well looking at the discount code history on mouse savers, the discounts for the time around presidents day haven't been announced until between october and january.

http://www.mousesavers.com/faq.html#codetrends

So I wouldn't expect you'ld see any discounts until then. But with the unvieling of the Fairytale packages, they've all but eliminated the room only discount codes. Looks like you'ld need to get an annual pass. And they are slow getting those out now too. My guess is they are waiting to see how they fill up with the opening of Mission:Space and Phillharmagic in October.

Depending who you booked through, if a cheaper rate comes out, you can change your ressie and get the difference back....

President's Weekend is one of the busiest times of years, just FYI. Discounts may be a little harder to come by, but not unheard of. Good luck...here's hoping for those discounts

We were at the poly 2 years ago for presidents week. Actually we pulled our kids out of school a few days early so we could get on the last day of the season rate. Let me tell you its really crowded. I almost laughed because I think all of Long Island must have been at the Poly. saw all the kids team jackets etc. A few notes. If you are set on swimming get a room close to the pool. My 2 ds's got sick running from the pool to our room in aearotora and use zip off pants that can turn into shorts. Worked great when it got hot in the parks. It is crowded because I heard 2 mgm cast members saying, boy is this crowded, but that is when they were also giving 911 workers lots of discounts etc.
Also beware there are germs everywhere and we were suppose to meet some friends at the castle but their daughter got a fever and ear infection and ended up at centra care for most of the day and our son was throwing up too. So be prepared. Plan well ahead for all your priority seatings too. I doubt you could walk up during this time.

You might want to consider renting some DVC points. Discounts from members abound.

Actually, this wouldn't work very well if you want to stay at the Poly. It "costs" DVC members anywhere from 41 to 110 points per night depending on room type and day of the week and the going rate for renting is around $10.00 per point so that would match up with the rack rates. Now if you wanted to stay at a DVC resort the points per night would be much lower (around 15-20 points per night).

Renting DVC points takes a lot of trust on both sides. It is not done throug Disney but is a transaction between you and the DVC member.

AAAAHHHHHH! So that was YOU!! We were there, too, and I couldn't believe the crowds. We typically go in the fall, and it is nice and quiet then. (relatively speaking) But we were commenting on how many New Yorkers were there... it was really amazing!

I appreciate all the warnings about the crowds, but what I perhaps should of mentioned is that I've probably gone to WDW wvery President's Weekend for the past 10 years! (Minus two or three when we went other places.) The crowds aren't unbareable, especially since AK opened and they started Fastpass (I can't even imagine what we did without it.

We'll definately request a room near the pool, as we hope to get there a few times during our stay. We also probably want to be near the Great Ceremonial House with the monorail and busses nearby. Anybody know a good "island" to request for this?

I must mention that I really wanted a lagoon view so we could see the fireworks at night (that must be pretty cool!) but at an extra $100 bucks a night, it just wasn't realistic. I still don't understand how any standard view room anywhere can be $400. As much as I love Disney (and believe me I love it a lot) I really believe they have gone way overboard in their pricing. It just isn't affordable for the average family.

BTW, we decided to stay at CB instead of All-Star for the first 3 days.

Poly

I could never afford the Poly either but once we stayed there, we found a way. We love it and we've stayed all over the place and we never found a section we didn't like. We stayed right across from the main pool and loved it, we stayed over by the boats and loved that too and then last time we stayed all the way at the other end by the Ticket and Transportation section and there were so many perks there also, that we loved it. I don't think they have one bad area. You don't need the lagoon view because it's so nice going to the beach at night, getting a lounge chair and watching the fireworks and electric parade every night. So you really can do without the lagoon view. Just make sure you enjoy the hotel also if your paying that much money. That is pretty high but I guess it has to do with the week you stay. We never pay more than 299.00 @ night.

I agree with kennyj29, you don't need a lagoon view to enjoy fireworks, we loved strolling down to the beach and sitting on a hamack nightly. (we just took the baby with us in the stroller) We got Poly Dec 2001 for 189 a night. We love the resort. Also you don't need a room right near the pool, it is a close resort, everything is nice and close to everything else. Turned out our long house had a great veiw of the fireworks from the top of the outside stair case. Save yourself the 100 a night and get a garden view.
