Question about spirit of aloha

I just made reservations for that dinner show. The wife is a wee bit shy. Is there a lot of audience participation for this event or are you pretty much just watching the performers?

Thanks in advance!

I'm not going to answer your question but I will give a piece of advice. Don't go. Spirit of Aloha is a waste of money. The show is too long, the food is mediocre and the beer is bad.

If you want a show, do Hoop De Doo Review.

If you want great food go to California Grill or 'Ohana.

I hate to be a kill joy but the Spirit of Aloha is really awful. Sorry.

It's the only thing in Disney I really dislike.

Everyone has their own opinion.... We enjoyed it. Wouldn't do it again for a few years but still enjoyed it for what it was. Dinner and a show. Enjoyable night...

You don't ahve to get involved unless you want to. They come into the audience to get people but they are pros they know who to grab and who to avoid.

We've done it three times in our soon to be 20 yrs of marriage. The first was our honeymoon and my husband got pulled up on stage after refusing to go up when they called for all honeymooners to come up...by the time he was brought back to his seat he was covered in shell necklaces and leis. Pretty funny. The second time our girls were younger 5, 8, 11 and had a great time. The third time was a big family event and it was nice...although another group had gotten into a fight and the women .....grandma, daughter, in-laws, children were all fighting in the restroom loud enough for others to hear then brought the argument back to their table...awkward. The show is kitchy but fun. The food can be great or ok depending on the night and we aren't crazy for the dessert. But I'd give it a go at least once.

Have done it and wouldn't do it again. You do not have to participate in any dinner show at Disney. I prefer Hoop Dee Doo over SoA a thousand times- the food and show are just better. I can remember falling asleep at Spirit of Aloha, whereas I was in practically in tears from laughter at Hoop Dee Doo last year and it was my 3rd time there lol.

Have gone twice. First time in 2010,show was ok. Second time in 2013. Show was still ok but food was awful! Do not recommend this show at all. It is in my opinion a terrible waste. Sorry to be a Debbie downer but not a good way to spend your night.

I hate saying this but it is only a shell of it's former self, what was a great show 20 years ago. I kept raving on it to my new bride, convincing us to go, based on memories from the past. I felt like an idiot afterwards. Not recommended unless you have kids that like Disney Channel Teen TV shhhhtuff. Food was just OK. They still have some remnants of the old show "forced" into it that make it enjoyable for around 15 minutes but other than that, what a shame. If you want a Hawaiian themed dinner, go to Ohana's instead. Best value on property for me.

I love the luau. I think it offers something much different than Ohana's or California Grill or Hoop de Doo or any of the other suggestions made in this thread.

I thought it was fun to watch the hulaing and the fire dances, etc. And the all you can eat Polynesian food can't be beat. I thought it felt very special to walk over to that part of the Poly with its beautiful scenery. I enjoyed receiving leis and having our photos taken.

Certainly, different people like different things but it's always best to try for yourself if piques your interest.

Its a great show. The beginning is a little corny when they have audience members come up, but once that is over and the show begins its great! The food is pretty good. You will enjoy it. Some people on here seem impossible to please.

I toally agree that this show is a shell of the former. I begged my family to skip the Hoop de Doo and do SoA in January of 2013. The show was boring at best, the food...let's put it this way, I was seen at th Contempo Cafe upon return to BLT.

Oh, and we left early as my 6 y.o. son was bored and the MK closed at 8:00pm that evening and we found out that the monorail was not going to be running to get back to BLT when the show was over.

Hoop de Doo is back in the plan....SoA is out.

It's not about being impossible to please, it is our opinion of the show. I have fun with just about anything in Disney, but I'm not gonna lie to the OP and say it wasn't boring and was great, because to ME it was not great and put me, well us to sleep. There is another dinner show that is fun from the moment it starts until the very end with better food. There is a huge difference between simply not enjoying something and being impossible to please.

We haven't been to Spirit of Aloha in years, once was enough, for what it was back then. From what I've read from other posters, it doesn't seem to have changed very much.

Glad some folks still like it. Like I said, if you like the Disney Channel teen stuff, you will love it. It's not cheap though and after seeing a few of the original shows at WDW, though, and experiencing a few real luaus in Hawaii, I'll pass until this one gets changed again.

Yes
Once it was a good show on par with what you can find at the Polynesian Cultural Center in Laie, HI but its morphed over the years to something more homogenized and linked by a weaker plot line (a pan-pacific melting pot family is just too much of a stretch)

We are planning our trip for this fall and I was looking into the possibility of doing one of the dinner shows.. The descriptions I had read online sounded like the show would be fun, but I was wondering about the food. I didn't love the food at 'Ohana. I'm not a fan of sweet sauces on meat.. I came to this thread to see if there were descriptions of the food, which I really didn't see (other than it was good.. it was bad.. etc..)

Before I read this thread, I was leaning towards one of the shows at the Wilderness Lodge.. and after reading it, I am still leaning that way..

I was not a fan of the food nor was anyone in our traveing party (5). I do not remember the specifics of it all, but do remember not liking it.

Just to clarify, there are no shows at the Wilderness Lodge. Hoop-de-doo is at Fort Wilderness. Although they're adjacent and connected through a nature trail and via bus service, they're completely different resorts. I've never figured out why Disney would create such confusion by giving them similar names, but they didn't ask for my opinion before doing it. :)
