Where is the refurbishment info?

What are they doing for nearly a year?

The short of it is that they completely gutted the entire ride and are now almost finished putting it back together, only better. New sound system, fine-tuned animatronics, brighter (and maybe a few new) sets, new boats, etc. They spent A LOT of $$$$$ on this refurb, and it really needed it.

The ride will look like the same ride, but they freshened everything up and improved the audio system. I believe they also improved the loading area for the ride.

That's right! I forgot about that, they've reversed the queues, what was once the unload is now the load and vice-versa. I think they also are adding a gift shop, if I'm not mistaken.

It does really need it! I thought it had a little gift shop as you come off?? Never mind I am sorry, I got WDW mixed with Disneyland! There is a gift shop as you come off in Disneyland right??

Yup, there sure is, in true Disney fashion. But then again I havent been there in 3 years... but it was there when I last visited. I used to get all my Disney barbies there when IASW was sponsored by Mattell. Its a cute little gift shop too!
