Can anyone tell me why Port Orleans combined with Dixie Landings??

We stayed at Dixie Landings when they were 2 separate resorts. What is it like now, the food courts and restaurants... are there still food courts at each location??

I heard from a former cast member that the two resorts were sold as a package to an outside owner, leading to the combination of the two resorts. I could be wrong, but I don't think that there are any major changes in either resort, but if I'm not mistaken, Port Orleans French Quarter will be closed until May 31st. As with a lot of things Disney these days, I think it's pretty uncertain why Port Orleans was actually closed (low attendance, funding problems, new ownership, etc.). I realize this is all sketchy, but maybe it will spark some sort of discussion.

These hotels were not purchased by an outside group. We stayed there with my family last August and it was just a matter of PO being so small that management for DL could easily handle both resorts as one larger hotel. And this allowed them to close the PO sitdown restaurant that was never very crowded (at least the times that we were there, though I LOVED it). I believe combining a lot of the services like housekeeping, maintenance and food service under one management team is saving them buckets of money, while being almost invisible to park guests (unless you lose your credit card and it ends up at old DL instead of PO because they didn't check where you were staying! Oopsy!).

That'll teach me to speak out of turn... heh. Thanks for clearing that up... All I know is that I'm really looking forward to staying at Riverside in a month. Dixie Landings was so great when we stayed there in 2000. I still can't decide if I want to stay at the mansions again or if I want to try out the Bayou, but I'll probably stick with the mansions because we really enjoyed it last time.

The resorts are still opearated as two seperate resorts, but have an overall name. This was done for a number of reasons.

1. Some people thought the Name Dixie was offensive so they changed that.

2. They wanted to give the resort an overall theme that it could follow.

3. Since the resorts shared facilities anyway they could easily combine the two without confusing anyone. Also, now if there is any reason that they needed to send a person from one resort to another it won't make it seem as if they are going to be at a completely different hotel.

I trust you because you usually have all your stuff down, but we were definitely told that the two resorts were being run by one management staff now. The lost credit card problem was what brought the issue to light -- they had to call the manager on duty at the old DL front desk to find out where the card was and the manager brought the desk over to POFQ when they came to "check in" on things a while later and we stopped back to pick it up.

The resort was always run by the same management...where as if something goes wrong, they can get someone from either resort to help. This did not just happen with the merger.

But they are run as two seperate resorts...housekeeping, CM's, etc...

If The Name was Dixie Landings It Would Be the Same as it has always been. I Found no Difference Besides a Simple Name Change and Different Mugs
