Question about MK rope drop

I'd be there no later than 8:30 to get through bag check and scope out a good spot. Last time I was there for a 9am opening it began about 10 minutes til or so, because it was over before 9 and the rope dropped then. I usually get to MK at least 45 minutes before rope drop.
Agreed. It start about ten to nine. But if you're up front, right by the turnstiles, you either miss it entirely or have a terrible view. Being further back, where you have a good view of the center of the platform helps a lot.

It really is a cute little show.

Go through the turnstiles and stand in front of the Mickey flora arrangement (between the ticket turnstiles and the 'tunnels' to enter Main Street USA)...maybe a bit back from that...and you'll have a great view; front and center. You'll still be early enough to be one of the first to enter the park, even if the area starts to fill-in.

A tip...if you go onto youtube and watch some of the videos of it that catch the Welcome Medley music at the very beginning...you can see the actual start time on the clock above. In fact, here's a vid that starts right at the beginning of the music and you can see the clock (looks like it's 8:49-8:50a)...

Last time we saw it, we were having a non-park day...but we went to MK around 8:30a. We staked out a spot on the benches before bag check and still got a great view of the show.

We usually get there around 830 or a little after. I agree with what has been said above especially about standing further back. It makes it much easier to see.

Thanks, don't think the family would want to be there at 6:30am and then there is no show.

More than likely there will be something but the odds of actually being selected as family of the day, are a bit slim when there is always the chance that the show will be modified. Weather problems, train problems, possible casting issues, etc can all cause them to run a modified good morning show. Remember that being selected as the family requires first off, talking to the CM who gets to pick the family, and then actually hitting it off with them/impressing them to the point where they will choose you. I'd rather sleep in the extra 30 mins (or get my morning run in) and then still get there 7:30 ish well early for whatever they do happen to do that day. Also, the buses don't start running til about 6:30 most mornings. So even if you did happen to hop on a bus right at 6:30, you most likely wouldn't make it to the MK til at least 6:45 or 7.
