Does anyone know what the current status of the MGM-Disney partnership is? There are always swirling rumors about it being dissolved or not being renewed, and I was wondering if anyone had the inside track on this one. I have always through that Disney could really exploit the MGM properties more, but perhaps a rocky relationship is preventing them from doing that. Thanks guys!

MGM is licensing its name out to some other developers around the world so it looks as thought it will go away. Al Lutz has claimed that his sources have told him it will become the Disney-Pixar Studios. Kevin Yee has claimed the same thing.

Disney signed an agreement in 1985 with MGM for 20 year use of the logo and many of its film properties for what was basically a bargain. Disney could slap Leo the Lion on as much merchandise as it wanted without paying MGM royalties. MGM were reportedly very unhappy with the deal, but when 2005 rolled around, Disney have at large kept the name, although it cannot use "MGM" in media, so it is the Disney Studios on the DVD etcetera.
