Question about making shirts.

I have a question... it might be a stupid one, so don't get mad. My family and i plan to go to one of the pirate and princess parties in August. I really want to make us pirates of the caribbean shirts, with a painting of a different character on each one. Is disney okay with you doing this? I would hate to put in the effort and be told i can't wear the shirts. They won't be offensive or anything, but still.
Does anyone else make their own disney shirts and wear them to the parks?
Any help would be great!

I imagine it depends on how you intend to make them. Images from the movies and advertisements would be copyrighted. But I think if you copy them yourself for your own use [not for profit], you're ok.

I've only ever heard of people being asked to turn their shirts inside out if the shirt was offencive, not for having non-approved Disney images.

I've seen home made Disney shirts in the parks all the time. As long as you are not selling them or altering the image (and you leave the trademark/copyright symbol intact) you should be ok.

I did a quick search and iron on transfers from PotC are available in craft stores.

You should be fine. I make shirts with the old EPCOT Center logos on them and I've never had any bad comments on them. CMs seem to love them, actually.

LOL at last check there's no list of "approved" disney images to wear to the parks... As long as it's not offensive... pictures of characters are fine to put on shirts. Have fun and post pics when you're done! We'd love to see what you put together!

I made mine here at home. I have bought the shirts (wash & pre shrink them), the iron transfers and some fabric paint. You can also buy transfer paper to use on your home printer and pick up photos, etc that are in the public domain.

No no no, i'll be painting them. They'll look like my tia dalma painting in my avatar. They won't be like actual images, i'll be painting the images directly onto the shirts.

I wondered when you mentioned painting... WOW!

I would suggest you could go into business, but then the copyright issues might become a problem!

:lookaroun

Maybe you could just do a few for me....

haha, thank you all!! Yeah, copyrights would be an issue. I only make them to hang on my walls, i don't make money off of them. It's just acrylic on canvas. If someone teaches me how to post pictures i'll gladly post my others. I have two jack sparrows. i have a tower of terror i made as well, but i don't have a photo of it.
the rest of my paintings are not disney related.

...you don't think painting shirts would be a problem right? I think it'd be really neat, but i don't want to get in trouble or anything like that.

Shirt #1

Alright, so I've started to make my family's shirts.

This is the one for my 9 year old sister. I think it turned out really well!
Do you think it will be a problem?

Anyways, let me know what you think!!

Very nice artwork! You have a good eye for color.

And as far as shirts with images go, I've made t-shirts with Disney characters for my sons to wear at WDW for the last seven years. No negative comments from anyone, and several CM's made some very nice comments.

I asked them if they wanted custom t-shirts this year. Alas, they're now too "old" to wear Disney characters. *sniff*

Im not too old for Disney shirts!
VERY nice work! I think those would be great for the parks, and original too! I bet you get lots of great positive feedback on those!

I dont see how they would be a problem. I know with Cross stitch designs, I can stitch all I want, as long as I dont sell my work. So it should be ok!
