Question about luggage and magical express

We are leaving next week for our Disney trip staying at the Contemporary Resort. It says in my documents that Disney will pick up my luggage and bring it to the room. My question is how do they know how much luggage I have? I am a little worried that luggage may get left at the airport. Has anyone done used this option before... maybe I am just a little nervous :)

Thanks
Kevin

Put the yellow tags on your luggage. If you have one for each bag, no worries, you're good to go. When you arrive at DME you can go straight to the queuing for buses and swipe your Magicband or show your bar code in your DME package. They will ask how many checked bags.

If they didn't send enough for all your checked luggage, take and print a photo of any extra bags and when you get to MCO, check in at the counter to identify the extra bags. The photo and luggage claim tags will speed that process along. They'll be able to recover your un-tagged bags and deliver everything to your resort room.

Yes, I have the yellow tags. It all sounds too easy LOL. How soon will the luggage arrive in my room ?

They say within 3 hours of checkin, but mine took about 4. Which was fine, but I checked in at seven PM so waiting to get all my stuff until 11 wasn't great, but I would still do it again, especially if I had an earlier flight. I had a backpack with one day of clothes (incase it didn't get to me in time for the next day) as well as toiletries and medications. But it was really nice to go to check in and not have to worry about baggage claim or lugging it to my room.

@kevinscruising ....it is all "too easy"...... that is the Magic of Disney. DME works, I am not sure how but I think it involves elves and "pixie dust ". When you check your luggage at the airport, the airline always asks how many bags you are checking. Be sure to put those little yellow tags on all your checked bags and they will "magically" be put into your room. I always out a change of clothes in my carry on along with medications etc. Have a wonderful trip and try not to worry about your luggage...Disney really is the place where Dreams Come True. :cat:...oh....and enjoy the CR.....my absolute all time favorite.

Sorry, had a bad experience and don't trust the luggage transport. I recommend if you do it, be sure you pack pajamas, a change of clothes and basic toiletries in your carry-ons so that you are prepared if your bags are lost.

Thank you....Really looking froward to the CR. I have always wanted to go there since I was a boy. Now for the first time there, I am taking my Granddaughter ! Things have a way of working out lol

There will be three of us going to WDW in May and when I talked to the CM about the magic express and the number of bags that I will be needing tags for, I told the CW four bags. The CM hesitated and said they could only do three tags.

I responded back, well I may have four, what I'm suppose to do then? She put me on hold and said she was calling the transportation department to ask that question. I waited on hold for over a half-hour and then she came back and said if I needed more tags then I would have to call the magic express people before we left. I'm probably only going to have three bags to check but with Southwest, I could technically have six bags in total. That was just my experience so far.

I thought Magical Express gave you two tags per person.

That's strange...as far as I know there is no limit to the number of bags that you can transport using magical express. As long as you have the tags or identify the bags that are not tagged at the counter then you should be good to go. Seems like you had a person on the phone who really wasn't sure of the process. I'd try calling back and talking to someone else to get you more tags.

We have also run into some problems with the luggage delivery aspect of ME. Now we take our own bags. Better safe than sorry.

It's "too easy" when it works which is most of the time, I'm sure. But it's a headache on those rare occassions when it doesn't.

Yep.....they give you 2 bags per person on your reservation. :cat:

Not with my experience. I just received the tags in the mail yesterday and I only received three and per the CM I was not able to get more from them unless I contact the Meers, Magic Express people.

I'm not concerned though since I may just take my luggage off the belt anyway and hand deliver it to the bus. I would rather know right away if the airline lost my luggage while I'm still at the airport rather than be all the way in the park.

Used to, not any more. They now send one per person.

One of the significant advantages to using DME is you don't have to worry about the airline losing your luggage. If you check your bags and tell DME on arrival how many were checked, if that many don't show up DME deals with the airlines on your behalf. They track down the bag(s) and deliver them to you whenever they finally arrive. So instead of you losing valuable vacation time worrying and arguing with airline reps, DME does the heavy lifting.

Chances are the folks who have had late-arriving bags it was the airlines' fault and was fixed by DME.

Do make sure you have medications and a change of clothes in carry-on, but don't fret DME.

how would using DME stop the airlines from losing our luggage? the DME is at point B. If the airline fails to put the luggage into the correct plane at point A and it ends up at point C, how does that help?

It won't stop them from losing it, however it lets DME be the go between. They should call the airlines, track down the luggage, get it put on the next plane etc. If you don't put the tags on, you have to call the airlines, have them track it down, etc. Should eliminate some of the stress and hassle.

As mentioned a few times, always pack the essentials in your carry on. That's just good practice anytime you check luggage.

DME doesn't stop it from being lost, but they do all the legwork to recover it on your behalf so you don't have to.

Often, guests aren't even aware there was an issue with their luggage because it's in their room when they get back from having fun in the parks. The one time my luggage was "misdirected" by the airline, I actually only knew because there was an extra "rush" tag on the luggage when I did get back to my room.
