Question about carrying a camera in Disney

I have a canon digital rebel. As you know, it was very expensive. But that is the camera I want to use at Disney this summer. I am trying to figure out the best way to carry it. I have a really HUGE case for it (I can fit all my lenses and filters and another whole camera in that case with it) so that would be way too big to carry around the park.

I want something that I could quickly and easily take my camera out of. I take pictures pretty much non-stop, but on those few occassions where I'm NOT snapping pictures (like while boarding a ride, etc.) I don't want to have my camera banging into everything. But at the same time, I don't want to have to deal with tons of zippers and straps trying to access my camera when one of my kids does something cute.

I hope that made sense.

Every other time I've gone to a theme park with an SLR I've had a miserable time dealing with it. If I keep it in the case then it's a pain to get it in and out. If I don't put it in the case then it smacks into everything. I want something in between.

Any advice?

I also have a Digital Rebel and have been using an Adorama Slinger Bag with it. The bags isn't all that big, has enough room for the camera and 2-3 lenses plus cards and whatnot. The camera can sit in the bag like a "top-loader" bag with a lense on so that you can grab it quick by unhooking one snap. Best of all the bag is only $40!

Unfortunately, I haven't been to WDW since I got this camera/bag combo, but I definitely had a Disney trip in mind when bag shopping. I think that it should be small enough to fit in the nets on all the rides that have them and should be comfortable to carry all day.

I hope this helps.

For this very reason, we usually pick one day of the week that will be our "picture day". The rest of the week the camera stays locked up at the Hotel. I HATE carrying it when so much can go wrong! You can take a TON of pics when that's all you are doing!

As that idea will be considered unacceptable by many here, if you are going to carry your camera at ALL times, I suggest using a CAMCORDER BAG for your camera, as there is lots of extra room in there and its really easy to get it in and out quickly, without being very bulky.

My biggest problem was always leaving the camera setting somewhere after eating, seeing a show, etc. With the bag, I never forget it.

Here are just some of my thoughts:

1. Take 1, maybe 2 lenses (telephoto wouldn't be bad)

2. Dump all the filters except uv, unless there is a specific reason why you want the other.

Now that you are trimmed down you will be much better off. I guess the rest of it is a combo of the above advice.

I have used a simple should bag that had 2 compartments. On one side I had my Canon Digital G2 and the other my Video camera. The side pockets held extra film for my video camera. Very light weight and I could get in as easy as could be.

My guess this is what would be best for you.

The nice thing about my G2 is that the body is smaller then the Rebel. I have a simple and very small over the should carry case for it (not a bag per se.) The bag is just large enough for the camera and 2 extra flash cards. I can get in and out extremely fast. Maybe there is something like that you can use, it woulg just have to be a little larger.

Hope some of that might help spur your thinking. One final thought, go to Walmart/Target etc and just walk around. You can find solutions in the strangest places.

After considering for a month, I took your advice and ordered the slinger. It should be here in 3 days. :) Thanks!

Glad I could help. Let me know how it works out in WDW (like how well does it fit in th pouches on the rides, is it too big to carry all day, etc).

I'm actually going to an amusement park this Saturday - so I'll let you know on Sunday how well it works out. :)

I got it in the mail today and I really love it. I just have a couple questions, maybe you know...

That black strap that clips around your waist - I don't really care to use it. Is there a way to get it so it's not just dangling? The only solution I can figure out is to stuff it into the mesh pockets on the sides. But then I can't use the mesh pockets.

Another question - the card that came with it said it can be used as a sling, a waist pack, or a backpack, but so far I've only figured out how to use it as a sling. How do you do the other 2 things?

What I have done with the belt strap is wrap it through the open space behind the "hidden" compartment on the back. If your not sure what I mean I'll try to get a picture posted.

I have only used mine as a sling as well so I'm not to sure how the other approaches work. I bet Adorama could help you out on that one.

Look forward to hearing how it works out for you this weekend and seeing the pictures. Have fun.

:hammer: I'm such a dork. My husband got home and immediately noticed the hidden compartment on the back. This is after I spent 15 minutes looking for one. DUHHH!! I'm not too observant.

I'm back from Carowinds...the slinger worked great!!! I loved that I could easily get my camera in and out without a bit of hassle. At the beginning of the day I could really feel the weight of the bag on my shoulder, but after an hour or two I was used to it and I barely felt it. If it started to get uncomfortable I would just change the position of the bag (move it to the front, back, or side of me).

It was great, you'll love it at Disney!

Here's a couple...I'm in the first 2 (blue shirt), I can't take credit for taking them.

Carowinds is no Disney. I was disgusted at some of the stuff I saw there.

Look how they pack the people in like sardines, with no overhead shade or anything.

And then the beautiful scenery from the river rapids ride of the "backstage" areas.

At least the rides were fun, despite the lack of scenery and theming.
