Question about antique WDW merchandise

My roommate (whom I love and adore!) was cleaning out her grandmother's house over our Fall Break and came across a pair of WDW plates which she thought I would be nuts over. Of course, I was! However, I can't seem to find any information about how old they are or anything. I was hoping maybe one of the knowlegeable people around here could help. :D

The plates are almost pottery-like and have attraction drawings around the outer edge. There's a total of six raised pictures: one of the Contemporary Resort, one of Cinderella Castle, one of the Jungle Cruise, one of the Admiral Joe Fowler, and one of the Haunted Mansion...the sixth picture is of a banner stating Walt Disney World. The inside of one plate is shiny and orange, the other is shiny and green. They say "Walt Disney Productions" and "Made in the USA" on the backside.

Does anyone know anything about my new treasures? Maybe someone has them too or saw them being sold at a park some time ago? Thanks for any info! :sohappy:

You should try searching for them on Ebay. If you find the plates, it will clue you in as to what they are, where they are from, how much they are worth, etc. Then you'll know! If not, and worse comes to worse, you can always send in a question to Disney Magazine...in the back there is a section where they answer questions quite often on Disney antiques. Hope this helps!

They are not worth anything, I will take them off your hands. :animwink:

If they say Walt Disney Productions they are worth more because that name was stopped being used back in the 80s I think. Ebay might give you an idea of the worth, but not totally acurate. You might want to check in the magazine as mentioned.

If you can take pics, I would like to see as well. I love old Disney merchandise.

On a side note on the Walt Disney Productions name. Even though the name is not used anymore, I have come accross merchandise in the parks bearing that name. I guess it is old merchandise. I purchased a wind-up walking Mickey that has it on the bottom. And in mid-90s I saw at a cart on Main Street that they were selling the old Mickey back scratchers that still bear the name.

Anyone else find stuff like that?

Lol, nice try, but no thank you. I'm totally in love with them. I spent some time browsing Ebay earlier today, but I didn't see anything like them. And I'm sorry, I don't have a digital camera, so I can't show pictures. If I ever do find a pic of them, I'll post it.

I have a CBJ pottery bank that looks like a log...the plates seem to be the same type pottery. I'm guessing they're late 70's or early 80's since I don't remember stuff like this, but I really have no idea. Thanks for all the help though!

I've seen quite a few of these plates on Ebay before. They aren't worth a lot. Maybe 10 or so dollars. Depends on the supply and demand. Hang onto them for sentimental value :)

As mentioned by Epcotfan, they are worth more to you for nostalgic reasons than the coin you would get for them anyway. It is strange how something could be selling on ebay for say $100 right now, in 6 months it could go for $10.00. It depends on what is popular. When pins got big, that was all you saw on ebay. They are still the majority when searching for Disney Stuff.

It is funny, all the stuff I buy on Ebay is stuff I once had as a kid and lost or got rid of. I want it back to relive my childhood. Yeah, I have a big red welt on my forhead from smacking myself...

Thanks for the info guys! I would never want to sell them because 1) they're Disney and 2) my roommate gave them to me. I've only had them for a few days, and already I treasure them because she thought of me when she found them. :D I was just curious as to how old they were, but I'm sure I'll find them on an auction somewhere and find out.

I do know what you mean about Ebay. Some stuff is ridiculously expensive and other stuff is much lower than you would expect. Have to be careful.

I agree some stuff is high and some is low. I was just saying things fluctuate. Everything is timing, that and the people bidding. I saw someone selling the same item week after week. On average it would go for between $15.00 and $25.00. One week he was selling the same item and some sort of bidding war happened. It sold for about $75.00. This is the same item. So, everything is timing.

Jennifer,
Ben's got a digital camera, if you wanna bring them over here. Keith also has one. We all know Ada spends enough time at his place. I'm sure he wouldn't mind taking the pics of the plates. I'll have to come over and check them out. They sound way awesome! Hope you had a great fall break!
