QS Dining plan - adult/child credits

When we last went in 2018 all QS dining credits were the same with no differentiation between adult and children. This meant my 2 little ones could choose what they wanted and not be restricted to the children's menu (which we found they rarely wanted anything off).

I've seen somewhere that starting in 2020 all the credits will be split and children must order off the children's menu.

Can anyone confirm? It could be a real issue if it's true.

Thanks

It was always stated that children must order from the children's menu, it is just now being enforced.

I would suggest not getting the dining plan and paying out of pocket. I didn’t even know this was a thing. If you pay for a kids dining plan, why would you cheat the system and order them a more expensive adult meal? We had the dining plan in 2016 and it never once occurred to me to order my kids an adult meal 🤦‍♀️

It's not cheating the system. On the QS plan you didn't get children credits and adult credits you just got a lump sum which you couldn't distinguish between. Disney knew there was no way to tell which was ordered so people ordered what they wanted.

They've now seemingly changed it to different credits rather than just one lot. Not a huge issue but something that, due to the change, will make things a little more difficult.

They're now enforcing the rule that children must order from the children's menu everywhere one is offered, but you still have some creative options to accommodate a fussy eater, including cobbling together a meal using a couple of snack credits, or simply switching/splitting meals when you get to the table. We used the DDP on our first visit (when my kids were both under age 10), and my very-unfussy DH would routinely eat my daughter's kids menu burger, while she ate most of his [more exotic] adult meal. ;) Also, you can ask at CS locations about allergy-friendly menus, which sometimes offer additional options for kids that don't appear on the regular menu.

Of course, if you haven't already purchased the DDP (or aren't getting it as part of a promotion), you can run the numbers and see if it might make everybody happier (and/or be less expensive) to pay out of pocket.

So it has been a rule in the past and just not enforced.

Not officially Disney but from a reputable travel company. I can find discussions back to 2012 stating that 3-9 should order of a kids menu where present and all sorts of ways around this. It isn't a new system as people are claiming, just enforcing the existing one.

Thats the DDP not the QSP (which come with adult and child however the credits were the same).

"Children 3-9 must order from the children's menu where available" was always the stated rule for the Quick-Service Dining Plan, too. Disney's previous failure to differentiate the credits in their system didn't vitiate the rule -- it just made it easy for people to ignore it.
