Putting shorts all on one DVD question

I don't know if anyone can help me. I am trying to put multiple shorts on one DVd from several DVDs and tape and don't know how.

When in WDW my daughter really enjoyed watching the old clips on one of the resort channels. I have been trying to get all of them but have not yet but do have a good portion of them. I have some VHS tapes as well as several of the Disney Treasures tins that I purchased.

My daughter will not watch all that is on the DVDs as some are actually pretty rough. For instance there is one of the Alice shorts where the dog collectors are turning the dogs into sausages and another where Foxy Loxy eats Chicken Little and the rest of the barnyard birds.

I have a DVD burner on both my Mac and my WinXP machine. Is there any free programs that I can easily pull out what I need from the DVDs to put into one DVD? I know how to do the whole thing on my Win machine but don't know how to take bits and pieces from each. For the tapes I will most likely pull the stuff in with Dazzle but not sure how and if I can put it with the chapters from the DVDs.

Anyone know how to explain any of this to me? And I do own everything I wan to do this with and am not planning giving it to anyone else, I just want to pull out all the excess and make a nice DVD my 5 year old can watch without me having to explain why Foxy Loxy is eating the barnyard animals...

Thanks,
Mike

If you can capture Tapes with Dazzle, try doing the same with the DVDs - I have done this using my Pinnacle DC10 capture card, which I think is a variation on the Dazzle theme.

Thanks, if I have to I can resort to that but was hoping for a more digital approach. I have used DVD decrypter and DVD shrink for ripping DVDs, I just don't know how to take chapters from multiple DVDs and create one DVD.

I can't help with a bit of automatic software - but maybe someone else can. But if push comes to shove, can the software that came with Dazzle let you set up new chapters? (I know the Pinnacle equivalent I have does)

To be honest, I am not sure. I bought it quite a while ago for an old camcorder.

Oh, it has nothing to do with masculine reputation. It has to do with very short attention span. What was it we were talking about anyway...

Don't worry - you can keep your masculine reputation intact and still read the manual!

Low tech approach

You may be able to record the pieces you want on tape then download them to your PC's hard drive to make the DVD with chapters. You could connect a digital camcorder to your DVD player, with composite or S-video cables, play exactly the clips you want while recording with the camcorder. Then connect the camcorder to your PC via IEEE 1394, and let your video edit software capture the entire tape while creating the chapters automatically.

I think, if you start and stop the recording of the clips each time a new short is played, the edit software will queue on those marks for each chapter. I haven't done this but I believe it is possible.

Optionally, when you create the menu on the new DVD, you could assoicate a menu item with each short. Not exactly the same as using chapters but probably would give you desirable results.

Try a DVD Recorder

Toshiba's D-VR4X DVD Recorder may be able to do exactly what you are describing. It will burn to DVD from many sources.

The D-VR4X sports some useful recording features, too. With two-way dubbing, you can quickly copy valuable VHS home videos to DVD, or save non-copy-protected DVDs to VHS. Front-panel audio/video inputs make it a cinch to back up camcorder footage. Plus, when you record to rewritable (erasable) DVDs, you can insert chapter markers and erase unwanted material for videos that are more fun to watch. <TABLE borderColor=blue cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 border=0><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=center colSpan=5>Details:
