Purchasing APs for the first time, a few questions

I've decided to bite the bullet and get myself an AP for the first time this year. I've done the math and it will definitely pay off financially. My questions are about timing and hotel reservations.

I know that prices usually go up in February, so I'd like to purchase before then, but since I'm still paying credit card bills for the trip I just returned from, I might have to wait. I'll deal with the increase. But how does it work with hotel reservations? I think the hotel discounts are sort of random, is that right? How far in advance do they tell AP holders about them? Would I be able to find out about the hotel discounts if I'm not an AP holder? I've heard there is a newsletter that APs get, but is there another public place to see the hotel deals too?

And finally, how do FPs work with APs? I've always done a park ticket and hotel package and make my FPs once that's booked, but if I have an AP, how do I make them?

Thank you for your help!

In order to access the Passholder website you need an AP, or a voucher with a number you can link to MDE after you purchase your AP. (There is no public display of AP offers.) For brand new APs, your use-year does not begin until you enter a park for the first time. So you can buy now and not activate until your next trip later this year. (Renewals are different.)

AP room discounts are typically released three months in advance, and of course resort availability and dates are limited. For a room only stay, you pay the first night’s rate as a deposit and the balance is due at check-in.

With a resort reservation you can book FPs 60 days out, the same as a ticket package. Otherwise you can book up to 7 days in the current 30 day period with an AP.
