Pteranodon Flyers

I know that this ride was a loading-design blunder. But the "you have to have a small kid with you" restriction never made sense to me. My understanding is that your child will be in his/her own chair. I for one am not willing to risk that my 4 year old is not going to have a panic attack mid flight and unhook her seatbelt. I have never been on this ride and assume that there must be something in place to make sure that kids do not wiggle themselves out of their seatbelts. Can someone explain the safety mechanisms to me. I do not want to wait on line only to find out that I would be uncomfortable with the set up. Thanks.

Ok, firstly, if you are in any doubt that you child can 'deal' with the ride then I would suggest that you don't put them on. It is perfectly safe, but only you can judge if your child will be 'up to iy.'

Anyway, that said, the rise has a triple mechanism.

1) A Lap Belt that is deadlocked once you 'take off.' It can not be undone until you return to the loading area.

2) A Frame bar than comes down over you.

3) For very young children there is a second lap belt type belt that can be used. It comes up between the legs and straps one thigh to the seat, locking as described above.

I think it would be pretty much impossible for a child to get out within the time it takes to do a circuit, but never say never.

We took our 2 year old on that ride 2 or 3 times last summer and she LOVED it. But I would never have used a child as an excuse to get myslef onto the ride if I was in ANY doubt that they would ride safely and panic free.

NP, it really comes down to how you are with heights I guess. You're about 50 feet up in the air I think, so if you don't 'do' heights well then it's probably a good one to miss.

Certainly the 1 hr plus queue time doesn't really justify the 45 second ride.....

It's dumb because they wouldn't let you on it...

Can anyone say sour grapes....

you have to be within a certain height to go on the ride, I believe it is like 36'' to 56'' and if you do not meet that requirement you must be with someone who does

That's all well and good be still I'm left wondering why?

It was done because when the ride first opened the lines were so long when they let just anyone on the attraction so they had to find a way to limit it, I just dont think that is a good way

When i was younger I relly wanted to go on this ride, however, the wait times never justified it when there are MUCH better rides at IOA that you could go on twice in the time you wait for 45 seconds on the flyers!Unless i could walk on, this will be a ride i always miss (I wouldn't get on now anyway without a child, I'm too big!).

Be at the park right when it opens and head straight for Pteranadon Flyers. Do not stop anywhere else. Usually, all above the height limit who try to go on at this time will be allowed on without question.

But surely, the park opening time is the best time to ride The HULK and Spiderman!

Well, I could ride them all day, but the queues for Spiderman can get very long and if you want the front seat of the HULK, the start of the day is best time to ride also, I suppose its all about deciding what you want most!
