Ok, bear with me on this one. I don't have any proof, but I have reason to believe that maybe the project gemini rumors were purposely planted in order to gain further interest in EPCOT. I mean, if you thought that anyone of your favorite attractions could be gone at any point, wouldn't it prompt you to visist the park sooner than planned, go more often, or decide to make a trip to WDW. I know it worked on me. And do you really think Eisner would set aside that kinda money for epcot but build half parks as often as possible? And then when Time racers didn't work out the funding was cut all together. I duno, sounds fishy.

So...should we assume that Gemini does not exist, as of this point in time, in any way, shape or form??

So then do we know what the status of Project Gemini is? I just wanted to say "Project Gemini." It sounds so cloak and dagger.

A complete redo of EPCOT's Future World (Or, as it was to be called, Discoveryland (I think))...

Do a google search for it... Or even check out the page on WDWMagic.com

Project Gemini, the complete transformation of Future World is currently happening. Test Track and most recently Mission: Space, and Soarin'. Not to mention talks and rumors about a possible change for innoventions.

The news of Project Gemini was not widespread enough really help the park out. Sure, a good number of people participate in Disney discussion forums, but that number is nothing compared to the 8-10 million that visit the park each year.

If project gemini had been announced the same way as the "Disney Decade" was announced back in the early 90's, then I may agree with you.

Also, many companies name large projects just for accounting purposes and classifications. I you had a large project like project gemini, that would have been completed in many fiscal years and included both capital and non-capital expenses, to have one general classification would make more sense.

Eh...hard to say. The Blue Sky version is dead as a doornail. Bits and pieces live on....

More Trees, Nemo in Living Seas, and Soarin are probably all we are going to get from PG.

The extra trees though are very unlikely besides that pond near Mission Space.

I believe that Project Gemini still exists and will continue to evolve. The part I believe that we are concerned about is that it is going slower than expected. It IS going slower than we all expected, however, it is happening, has been happening for the past few years now, and will continue to happen over the next several years. To show that it has happened: Classic rides were replaced with newer-more state of the art ones. World of Motion and Horizions were replaced by Test Track and Mission:Space. The origional Journey into Imaganation was replaced with Journey into YOUR Imaganation, still featuring figment, but newer. Food Rocks, by what I say was a "classic" in it's own right (food rocks was preceded by Kitchen Kaboret, which was also a "classic") by Soarn'. An Innoventions Replacement is being talked about, and Wonders of Life has closed (one of the parks older pavilions.) I would not be suprised if all the other pavilions get huge remodelings as well. By the way, if it really is Future World, than the old rides need to go. If this is showcasing the Future, than old rides and systems should be replaced. I still am a huge fan of World of Motion, Horizions, Food Rocks, Journey into Imaganation, and Wonders of Life (especially Body Wars), however as painful as it is these old rides need or needed to go, this is a showcase for the future, so lets make it top-notch and on the edge of the world's leading tecnology. This is not meant to offend anyone or the wonderful rides that have retired, just to prove a point. I also predict a new 3-D movie or show to replace Honey I Shrunk the Audience in the next 5 years. So, Project Gemini is still alive just moving along slower than most of us would like.

Ok, gemini existed, but how can you be sure it was actually intend to be an actual project and not just a rumor purposely spread to strike interest in epcot in not only it's current form but it's future form. Eisner could have easily greenlighted the project fully knowing he would only let it go so far. And I don't really count M:S and TT as project gemini. I could be wrong, but just because major improvements were made doesn't mean they were part of gemini, because additions have to be made over time regardless, I guess soarin counts, but gemini was meant to be a complete overhaul of futureworld. Just a conspiricy theory I know, but conceivable.

Heck, I havn't even seen a simple science lab building go up without major plans and revisions. I highly doubt something as huge as the remodelling of an entire portion of a park would be cast in stone and inflexible right off the boards. I think Gemini is simply a useful name for the renovation of Epcot Future World. Working for a 60 person studio half the office barely had a clue as to what other projects people were working on, and even the principals were a little sketchy on some of them.

I think that it's people like us fans whole built Gemini up into this amazing thing, and thought that every idea that came up was going to be built as is. Just doesn't work like that. Plans and ideas are highly volatile. It's just a name.

Wonders of Life was the newest pavilion to be built before MS came along.

I ceratinly agree with many of your points. Many people don't want to see any old attractions removed, but also want Future World to remain Future World. Also, most of the attractions have been updated over the last 10 years.

If you look at what has happened in the last 10 years or so:

UoE: Show replaced
WoL: Pavilion Closed
Horizons :Pavilion torn down...replaced by MS
WoM: Pavilion Closed...replaced by Test Track
Communicores: Closed...replaced by Innoventions
Imagination: Closed...replaced by JIIwF
Captain EO: Closed...replaced by HISTA
Land...kitchen kabaret replaced by food rocks...replaced by Soarin', also, Symbiosis was also replaced
SSE: Soundtrack replaced and ending updated
Living Seas:....Sea Cabs closed and Nemo area added (not that the two are related)

Except for WoL, every pavilion has seen some type of update, the problem is that in a few cases, the update was not as good as the original (Imagination) Also, many people are nostalgic about the good old days when we were all teenagers and visited EPCOT CENTER and learned about the future, so they don't want to see these old attraction replaced.

All projects start out as a vision that is above and beyond what it will actually become. Project Gemini is the grand vision. The reality is the steady updating of Epcot to the 21st century.

The "Florida Project" Was supposed to be focused on the CITY of EPCOT. Instead, things changed and it became the greatest collection of theme parks in the world. As for EPCOT it went from an Experimental Prototype City of Tomorrow to a showcase of new technologies, and old cultures.

Plans change, but the general scope of Project Gemini will push forward. I think that the Project's progress isn't as fast as expected because at Disney has it's money tied up in so many things. There are all the preperations for the Disneyland 50th Anniv. all around the world. Current projects include theMotor Stunt Show, Expedition Everest, Disneyland Space Mountain, and the entire Hong Kong Disneyland. Not to mention a little peice of Project Gemini going into Epcot as we speak, Soarin'. Soarin' is proof that Gemini is forging ahead.

When Soarin' is completed, and as Expedition Everest nears completion I'm sure we will hear more about the next attraction to come to EPCOT.

I guess that's kinda what I'm getting at. A much less dramatic way of looking at it. I just think half the point of naming it was to create that hype, and like I said before, create somewhat of an ergency for big time fans to check the place out before there favorite attraction is replaced and then they have to come back for the new one. Changes and additions are inevitable, but laying a whole slew of um out on the table would create more hype as it has instead of just going about these changes as normal.

NO WAY. Not many people know of Project Gemini besides the hardcore fans that come to these boards and other like it. This is such a small portion of the Disney gues popultation that it would make no sense for Disney to even waste its time.

No. Since the only people who even know about Gemini are the internet maniacs like us, not any of your typical GP that visit WDW.

So the payoff would minimal at best for all the work :)
