Problems im Tomorrowland on 8-20-05

I arrived at MK about 7pm last night, and was headed first over to ride Buzz. To my suprise, the bridge over to Tomorrowland was closed off and had lots of CM' sand Maintenance techs standing on it. So I of course had to ask what happened? And I was told that lightning had struck Space Mountain, and it managed to knock out power to a majority of Tomorrowland. And that the only things still open were Buzz and Stitch and they were working on evacuating both of those also, so the entire area would be clear of guests.. I also was told the reason the bridge was closed was because apparently there is a power station of some kind under the bridge and it was smoking shortly after the lightning strike.. And let me add that having power out in that area made it pretty dark all around there and half way around the hub, not to mention was pretty quiet during spectro and wishes cause the speakers on all the poles were ou too.. Was anyone else there last night and expereinced this??

OK, i've got a question. Are the speakers on poles in tommorrwland regular 8 ohm speakers or a 70 volt distributed system or a powered speaker system(amp and speaker combination).

I was always under the impression that all the amps were in the utilidors and that the speakers were just passive. So if lightning knocked out power in tommorrowland it should not have knocked out the sound system.

So, can some CM explain this to me please, I'm baffled(pun intended) and curious!!

It was part of the real bad storm that hit last night, but apparently it was from 1 really BAD strike that hit the top of the mountain somewhere. And I had my camera but got there about a half hour too late to catch it. The one CM I talked too about it saw the strike from outside and told me it was enormous, sparks everywhere..

Very Interesting. That storm last night was scary and I rarely get scared in storms. My dorm room is about 10 miles away from WDW and I was thinking the whole time that It would really suck to be there at this time.

The speakers are just for effect. Disney has developed a technology that beams the sound directly into your head. The times that you have difficulty hearing something or the sound is muffled is for effect only.

My sister and her boyfriend just got to WDW yesterday and got stock on the boat going from MGM to Yacht Club! Since the storm was so bad, they didn't want to get out of the boat so they had to last it out! She said the boat drivers were doing Disney trivia to try and make everyone feel better!

They were supposed to head to Magic Kingdom tonight but I believe they are going to MGM again.

Any updates would be great so that I can let them know what's happening!
