"Prince William," ABC's Highly Anticipated Film, Set To Air Sunday, September 29, 2002

After a production followed closely by royal watchers and British tabloids alike, an airdate has been set for the "ABC Original," "Prince William": Sunday, September 29, 2002 (7:00-9:00 p.m., ET).

Jordan Frieda stars as His Royal Highness William Arthur Philip Louis Windsor of Wales in ABC's telefilm, which is the first to dramatize the life of the royal prince and covers the years from the death of his mother, Princess Diana, to his arrival at St. Andrew's College.

Though relatively new to audiences in America, Mr. Frieda has appeared in the British feature film "The Sleeping Dictionary" and in the television shows "24 Seven" and HBO's "Band of Brothers." He has appeared in various British stage productions, including "Spinning into Butter," "Britannicus," "Cabaret," "The Seagull," "The Love of a Nightingale," "Cyrano De Bergerac" and "Gemini." "Prince William" marks the London native's first leading role for television. Show business runs in his family, as Mr. Frieda is the son of British pop singer/actress Lulu, whom American audiences may recognize from her hit single "To Sir with Love" and her starring role opposite Sidney Poitier in the feature film of the same title. Mr. Frieda's father is John Frieda, internationally renowned hair stylist and CEO of John Frieda Professional Hair Care Inc.

"Prince William" also stars Martin Turner as Prince Charles, Eddie Cooper as Prince Harry, Carolyn Pickles as Camilla Parker Bowles, Thomas Lockyer as Tony, Thom Fell as James Clavier, James Watson as Squiggy, Peter Vollebregt as Lenny, Neil Grainger as Laurence Philpott, Tom Walker as Tom Parker-Bowles, Eleanor Tremain as Laura Parker-Bowles, Rosemary Leach as Queen Elizabeth, Julian Curry as Prince Phillip, Ciaran O'Brien as Housemate 1, Scott Fredericks as Thomas Reading, Fiona York as Matron, Lucy Briers as Tiggy Legge-Bourke and Kelly Adams as Tara Palmer-Tomkinson,

Based on published accounts, "Prince William" is a coming-of-age story that touches on the Prince's complicated yet loving relationship with his father, Prince Charles, his acceptance of Camilla Parker Bowles and her children, his close bond with his younger brother, Prince Harry, and his continuing battle to protect the memory of his mother. The telefilm was shot on location in Ireland.

"Prince William" is executive-produced by Bonnie Raskin ("Killing Mr. Griffin," "The Tempest"). It is directed by Michael Watkins ("CSI," "Smallville") from a script written by Max Enscoe and Annie deYoung (ABC's "The Facts of Life Reunion," the feature "The Young Americans"). The telefilm is produced by Fox Television Studios via their Fox Television Pictures unit.
