Primeval Whirl refurb got me to thinkin'.

For some reason, Primeval Whirl is goin' down again soon, as we know.

As we also know, meh. Whatever. Who cares.

But I started to think about what could be done if they bulldozed Chester and Hester and everything around it. Let's let them keep Restaurantosaurus, the boneyard, the institute and ride, and the dinosaur trail with the awesome sculptures. Everything east of there, from the tacky highway, must go.

I just started to think about prehistoric animals and such, and wondered what could replace that, and make Dinoland awesome.

A couple of thoughts.

Something Ice Age themed--snow and such, mammoths and saber tooths, giant flightless birds. I am not sure what sort of ride this would be--perhaps some variation on Mysterious Island, going through both icy and volcanic areas and encountering various extinct mammals.

Another would be a Savage Ancient Seas area, some sort of underwater simulator--Mosasaurs under water, pteranodons above, or perhaps you shrink down into a Cambrian Explosion type environments with all the weird almost alien type life that existed at that time--sea scorpions, etc.

I think the key is to create, in theming, more of a "you are there" Primeval World, as opposed to a "we're digging up fossils" area--something that makes you feel as though you've stepped back in time to another era.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this, or know if anything like that has ever been on the table?

I always thought Dino-Rama never really fit, it just kind of sticks out like a sore thumb.

My idea would be a Boneyard coaster. I got the idea from Lion King when Simba and Nala are trying to escape the Elephant Graveyard and they slide down the spine of the skeleton. Why not have something cool like that?

I did also wonder why Disney didn't just take the Dinosaurs from the Dinosaurs TV show that used to do a show at the studios and give them a spot in Dinoland. I mean sure the show's outdated but they have Bill Nye everywhere and kids have no idea who he is anymore.

Maybe Dino-rama isn't meant to be permanent. Maybe its going to stay as long as Toontown. lol.

Primeval Whirl is maintenance and engineering nightmare. It's a classic wild mouse type coaster and just by its nature, there are numerous stresses on the track that result in necking or cracking potentially, hence frequent repair required.

I would love to see the Chester and Hester area be updated or re-imagined one way or another in years to come! With FLE however, I doubt we hear of any other big projects in general in the parks til after 2013.
