Pridelands Safaris

OK, continuing some of my idea, I thought I might try something a little different from my previous post. This one is a thrill ride based on the Lion King called Pridelands Safaris. You begin your adventure by entering a safari lodge, which includes the queue. Near the end you enter an area in which a movie is show. In it, your "guide" tells you a little about what you'll see, including information about the environments and animals you will encounter. The big news is that a large rock formation which they believe to be home to a pride of lions (actually Pride Rock from the film) has been found and you're going to see if there are any lions around. You leave and enter your safari jeep (a vehicle similar to those on DINOSAUR or Indiana Jones Adventure) and head out on a bumpy ride through Africa. You first pass a watering hole, which is home to a variety of audio-animatronic animals, including Timon and Pumbaa, as well as Rafiki in his tree. You next enter the dark and spooky Elephant Graveyard where you are chased by Hyenas. When you finally escape, you find yourself right in the way of the Wildebeest stampede while the evil Scar looks on. You car stalls in front of the stampeed but starts up again and swerves out of the way. You finally reach Pride Rock where Mufassa, Simba, and other lions can be seen. You then exit through the obligatory gift shop. What do you think?

The ride system is different (real safari vs. indoor CTX style ride), as is the tone or the ride (AK is informational while this is just entertaining) and many of the things that happen are different (the the elephant graveyard and stampeed scenes bare no similarity to the other ride). This rides are both different, but I still don't think I would put this at AK.

But where else would it fit!

Well, the ride was supose to be in a park I was working on but ended up not working. I think it would work best at one of the Magic Kingdoms in Adventureland, kind of like how Indiana Jones is at Disneyland or in a whole new park.

I just dont really like the idea of yet another Lion King attraction. Granted, I love the movie, but it's getting beaten to death with a monkey stick like Simba's head.

Yes there are plenty of Lion King themed attractions in WDW, but none of the other parks (California, Paris, Tokyo) have anything Lion King themed to my knowledge except parade units. It's much too popular a movie not to have an attraction in these parks. Maybe this could be put at one of these parks insteed of WDW.

First off, I'm ahuge lion king fan, involved with many of the web rings and such around the internet, and quite frankly, I don't like the premise of this ride..The Lion King exists without humans, away from humans. There is no time set for it, and as far as I'm concerned, it takes place in the future, after humanity is wiped out by a plague. Or, after humanity has left for some other planet or numerous other ideas. The LIon King has /no/ humans in it, therefore, if I /ever/ see a ride put into WDW, the charecters in that ride /can't/ interact with guests, I.E., The Hyenas can't chase the car. Sorry, I'm really touchy about the lion king. The show work fins for me simply becuase it's fun, it's kid-oriented, and because, well, it's a show. But A ride is a different story for me, the ride would refelct aspects of the movie, wheras the show just refelcts the african theme and a few of the same characters, and utilizes the music from the movie.

Sorry :(

I'm affraid I don't understand. First of all, humans are mentioned and featured in many of the attractions about the Lion King in the parks (The singers in Festival of the Lion King, Circle of Life), not to mention the Timon and Pumbaa spin-off cartoon series which they traveled around the modern world. I really don't see this concept as that far-fetched.

Make a story ride = Snow White's Adventure. Not an EMV attraction where there has to be fast motion etc.

k?

Well, the problem is it doesn't relly tell the story of the Lion King, just taking guests on an African safari adventure based on the film. Plus, many of the effect (the chace with the Hyenas, stalling at the stampeed, the bumpy ride through the jungle) wouldn't be nearly as effective as if it was a ride systen like Snow White. It's really more like Dinosaur insteed of Snow White, an adventure based on the movie, not reliving it.

Tomorrow Land!

As Chad said, "There is no time set for it, and as far as I'm concerned, it takes place in the future, after humanity is wiped out by a plague."

Sounds like a good ride to me meeko. I think Chad has an excellent point. You could easily modify the setup so that "human" creatures came to earth in a spaceship after the big plague. Then they could interact with the "lifeforms" on earth. Also, the humans could catch the plague. You could have a diseased animal (or several) spit on the guests and then work it into the plot to convince them that they now have contracted a serious illness. The only antedote would be sold in the gift shop.

Ok, ok, no need to get sarcastic...

All I'm saying is this: If you are going to make a ride that takes you through the storyline /or/ plot of The Lion King, I won't be happy unless the characters don't interact with guests. They'd have to be oblivous to their entrance into the world...Like I said in my first post...The Festival of the Lion King had /nothing/ to do with the actual movie's plot, it's based on the music from the lion king. Similar to the Tarzan show.

I know I sound crazy, but this movie means so much to me.

Well, the only part of the ride where the characters intreact with the guests would be the elephant graveyard sequence. It might be able to be changed, but I'm not exactly sure how. Would it be better if you spotted the Hyennas but they didn't notice you and you try to escape before they spot you?
