Preparing for MK

I'm wanting to prepare my daughter (and myself) for our trip to MK this winter by learning about the inspiration for different rides. I'm planning on watching Swiss Family Robinson and other movies that relate to rides. What advice do people have on what movies to watch to learn about the rides? And, how can I prepare for Splash Mountain since we can't watch Song of the South?

You could try to find episodes of Disneyland to watch. They've been released on various Walt Disney Treasures sets but plenty can probably be found on YouTube. Most of the Magic a Kingdom was not based around specific films so it'll be more things of the same genre.

How old is your daughter?

Currently 4 but will be 5 when we go.

There's a Birnbaum Disney for kids book that I got for mine from the library before we went - it was really cute. I would also recommend going to the library to the trip planning section and seeing if there are any DVDs you can borrow to show her what to expect when you get there.

Definitely get the Walt Disney World planning DVD from Disney.com. It's free. We love to watch those before our trips. It will show you a lot about the parks, resorts, activities, etc. :)
