Pregnant in WDW - questions/tips

Hi all. Planning a trip at the end of May for Disney, and just found out I'm pregnant with my first child! Very excited, but now a little apprehensive about the trip. I'm very familiar with the parks, but haven't been since the implementation of Genie+, etc.

We'll be staying at the Swan, and have four day base tickets (not parkhopping this trip).

1) Is it even worth going to DHS? On the one hand, I haven't been in a few years and would love to do things like Toy Story Mania, Muppets 3D, etc. On the other, I know the majority of rides in the park are no-gos for me while pregnant, and since we aren't parkhopping, I'm concerned about being able to fill a full day at the park. Should I let the rest of my party go to DHS and I take in a second day at MK instead?

2) Has anyone done their pregnancy announcement photos at WDW? I was thinking of getting some done, either with my own camera, or by doing the "Capture the Moment" package that's available in the parks. Would love to hear/see about other folks who did similar.

3) Any particular "hacks" I should keep in mind to make things easier on myself? I already know I need to mentally prepare myself to slow down and not go at my usual breakneck pace in the parks, but easier said than done 😆.

Congratulations!

My wife and I went to the parks in California when she was pregnant with our first daughter and then WDW when she was pregnant with our second.

1) Yes, do everything you can before you have kids. And by that I mean, don't even worry about the rides. When you come back with kids your agency is done. Even if you go to the parks with helps when you have little kids you will lose so much of your ability to just enjoy not having kids to think about. So yes, go to DHS, figure out what rides you can go on and just take it easy. You will be going to MK a lot with little kids if you do go back soon so you could also go to MK twice but you will be hard pressed to find a reason to go to DHS until your kid(s) hit preschool age so consider that, too.

2) No advice here

3) Since you're staying at the Swan which is a boat ride's away from Epcot and DHS, consider going back to your hotel for an epic nap as you see fit in the middle of the day. Orlando, in May, with Sun and humidity, is not that pleasant between 11 and 5PM as-is. Don't punish yourself any more than you have to. Sunk costs are sunk--- if you feel like you're not having a good time and want to take a rest just bounce.

Also, eat whatever you want, wherever you want. Have fun!

Congratulations! What wonderful news!

As far as what rides you can do specifically, I'd consult your doctor. (Rough stuff with sudden drops or jerky movements will be out, but many other types of movements may be okay -- e.g., NO to Test Track, but YES to Soarin', NO to Dinosaur, but YES to Triceratop Spin -- all depending on what the physician says. Disney puts pregnancy warnings on practically everything, so having your doctor's take should be helpful in narrowing down what is safe for you and what isn't.)

For touring in general, make sure to stay hydrated and well-nourished, go slow, rest often, use the MDE app to find out where all the restrooms are (because you may will probably want to stop every time you pass one), and listen to your body.

My wife and I went this past April while she was around 4.5 months pregnant with our first. We hadn't been for about 5 years before that (used to go every year until we decide to travel other places for a while). We went to all the parks and she was able to do quite a bit, even at DHS (both stars ways rides, all the shows, etc). Her Dr is also a Disney person that goes every year, so she knew exactly which rides were okay to go on even when disney officially says no pregnant persons (looking at you Kilimanjaro Safaris). Definitely check with your Dr though since they all have different opinions on what is safe, ours even gave clearance for Space Mountain as long as my wife was feeling up to it, since its max speed is less than most cars drive in neighborhoods. Most of all be prepared to take mid day breaks back at your resort that you might not have taken in the past so you can prop your feet up. We also used to be rope drop to close people, but that didn't happen any of the days we were there.
