Yep, this looks like the first one I'll dislike.

It's too bad because I liked the previous one, which was done by this same director (Prey). The Predator looks horrible. And this version looks like it is too reliant on bad CGI. It's so fake at the end, the effects look like they belong in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit".
Hey, don’t dis WFRR when that film won Best VFX at the Oscars in 1989.

What makes the predator design even worse is that the shoulders are too narrow and small for such a comically large prosthetic head. It doesn't look good.

So Hollywood is now at the point of, "Let's make a Predator film where he's the good guy." That'll work out great...

Agreed. The design is not good.

This was fun. It got a bit video-gamey here and there, but it did so many difficult things well that I'm impressed. The Predator made for a great protagonist. Elle made for a quirky side-kick that had somehow had great chemistry with the Predator. Elle is such a great actress that it was amazing to both be empathetic for one character and rooting for the demise of another when they're played by the same person. I did catch on to the twist with their tag-a-long companion, but it didn't diminish anything for me.

The effects ranged from decent to very good- I couldn't stop staring at the mandibles and feeling both sad and impressed by whoever had to make that enunciate.

Acts one and two were good and engaging, but act three for me was great. Not only did it play off all we had seen before, but I applaud them for actually using the legs. That's how you win me over- by going with an out-there concept and not only committing to it, but constantly one-upping the idea.

This was the best "found family" story I've seen in a while.
